Not far from the star seaside resorts of the coast such as Saint-Jean-de-Monts, Notre-Dame-de-Monts, Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Noirmoutier, Sallertaine, once surrounded by salt marshes, dominates fertile and beautifully preserved lands from its limestone islet. With its many hiking trails, cycling loops for all levels of practice and all desires, boat trips on its canals and green hinterland, Sallertaine is definitely the perfect place for your rejuvenating outings.

Take the time to visit Sallertaine on foot or by bike, especially its interesting village centre, which houses its 12th century Romanesque church, but also a windmill (the Moulin de Rairé), or the "bourrine à Rosalie", an old country house typical of market gardening in the early 20th century. The commune has a splendid and admirably flowered garden, that of Vaulieu: formerly a limestone quarry, exploited from antiquity until 1950 to produce the stones that were used to build the village, it is now a peaceful place to stroll, where you will love to come and rest.

What attracts the curious to Sallertaine is also its famous "Île aux Artisans". In summer, you will discover many craftsmen who exhibit and sell their creations throughout the summer: leather craftsmen, wood craftsmen, potters, jewellers, worm bakers, toy manufacturers of yesteryear, but also painters, sculptors, seamstresses, mosaic artists, decorators and specialists in straw marquetry or art embroidery, all will not fail to show you the strings of their fascinating craft at the bend in their workshops.

Sallertaine's main asset? Its proximity to the most beautiful beaches of the Vendée! The beaches of Saint-Jean-de-Monts are only a quarter of an hour's drive from downtown, so it will be easy for you to get there to enjoy their charm and multiple infrastructures. La Baigneuse beach, renowned for its fine sand and restaurants with their feet in the sand, is a must: family-friendly and well equipped, it offers very beautiful panoramic views of Île d'Yeu. Finally, the beach of the Nautical Base will be more suitable for sports enthusiasts: here, fishing on foot is king, as is sailing, surfing, catamaran, paddle, kitesurfing and bodyboarding.
