In the province of Salerno, in the Campania region of Italy, Amalfi is located on the legendary coastline of the same name, which has been on the UNESCO World Heritage list since 1997. Bordered by the waters of the Gulf of Salerno, in the Tyrrhenian Sea, Amalfi sits on broad rocky cliffs plunging into the heart of a wide gorge opening onto the waters of the port. Dominated by Mount Cerreto, which towers over the village from a height of 1,315 meters, Amalfi was one of the main ports of Europe from the 9th to the 12th century. John Steinbeck said of Amalfi, "It's a dreamy place that doesn't seem real when you're there and you feel a great nostalgia when you leave it. Known as one of the most beautiful villages in the province of Salerno, this former fishing village has become a popular destination for tourists seeking authenticity and dolce vita. Take the time to stroll along its ancient streets dotted with houses clinging to the cliffs, where historical monuments and vegetation have a place of choice. What to see? The Cathedral of Saint Andrew the Apostle! Located in Piazza Duomo, with the fountain of St. Andrew in its center, this imposing cathedral with its amazing architecture is a real gem, accessible after climbing majestic steps.
