In the south of Portugal, the Algarve is famous for its sublime beaches and lively nightlife. But the region also has a strong cultural identity, a rich heritage and beautiful cities that promise you holidays full of surprises and discoveries.

Stretching over 230 kilometres, the Algarve coast is among the most beautiful in Europe. Although bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, it enjoys a Mediterranean climate and can boast a sunshine of 3000 hours per year. With its immense stretches of sand, its beautiful golden cliffs, it offers an ideal setting to swim, rest on the beach and practice many nautical activities. For your holiday near the ocean, you have the choice between many seaside resorts with varied atmospheres such as Albufeira, Portimão, Vilamoura, Armacao de Pera, Quarteira...

But the Algarve coasts also invite you to discover its great historic cities. Visit Faro in particular to appreciate its many monuments. Walking through the old town, you can admire the Roman and Moorish ruins, the 13th century cathedral, the episcopal palace and the archaeological museum. Then visit Lagos whose maritime history goes back to Roman times and which was one of the bases of the great Portuguese explorers. Discover the city walls, the fortress of Ponta da Bandeira, the Governors' Castle or the church of Santo António whose richly decorated interior will fascinate you. In the back country, make a trip to Silves whose superb red castle was built by the Moors.

Hiking and cycling enthusiasts will be delighted by their stay in the Algarve. The region has many natural areas suitable for walks such as the Serra de Monchique or the Ria Formosa park. They can also enjoy their favourite activity along the Via Algarviana or the Route Vicentine. World famous for the quality of its golf courses, the Algarve is also a privileged destination for birdies and eagles aficionados. On the seaside or in the hinterland, they will be able to have about forty courses located in enchanting scenery.
