Once known as "Thiar", the town has been plundered many times and has built many defensive towers along its coastline, which still tell the story of this ancient town. Of these defensive constructions, the Tower of the Horadada of the 16th century remains today, emblematic of the local landscape and ideally located on the main beach of Pilar de la Horadada.
