Explore Begur
The medieval village of Bégur lies 100 kilometres from the French border. An enchanting place located on the Costa Brava, in the heart of the province of Girona, Bégur is perched on a hill halfway between the sea and the reddish cliffs of the Gavarres.
In order to start this stay in the best possible way, visit its old town made of stones and arcades, for a great leap in history. Although touristic, Bégur is a beautifully preserved village. Under its fortress and ruined castle (dating from the 11th century), its intertwined streets, its 17th century houses, its seafood restaurants, its church and its defence towers give it a unique charm. Climb the heights of the city to enjoy a breathtaking view over the valleys and nearby islands. Overlooking the coves coiled between the red rock cliffs, Bégur is definitely worth a visit at any time of the year. The commune enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate : it is therefore the ideal destination for holidays under the sun.
In Bégur, paths and pathways will allow you to visit the city and its surroundings on foot, mountain bike or horseback. The coast can be explored from the mainland as well as from the sea : board a kayak for an excursion that will take you from cove to cove, to discover paradisiac places. The Bégur coastline is rich with a multitude of sumptuous panoramas that are sure to fill your eyes with stars. Here, one passes from one beach to the other by small stony paths. It will be difficult for you to resist the charms of the coves of'Sa Tuna','del Rei','d'Aiguafreda' and'Sa Riera' which alone concentrate all the splendour of the Girona coast. In a splendid natural setting, you will have the opportunity to swim in the clear waters that border the white sandy beaches. If the "Illa Roja" is reserved for naturism, it is also one of the most photographed places of the Costa Brava, because of the immense red rock that separates the beach into two small coves. With its clear waters and its paradisiacal environment dressed with abundant vegetation, it has all the ingredients to make holidaymakers dream. The Raco beach is ideal for families : well equipped, you can rent mattresses, kayaks, enjoy inflatable games for children and play beach volleyball under the blazing sun. It should also be noted that the exceptionally rich seabed of the coast makes it a privileged place for scuba diving fans. Swimming in the middle of the pines, idleness, paddle, surfing, windsurfing and hiking you will have only the embarrassment of the choice to occupy the afternoons of your Catalan holidays.
Finally, in terms of gastronomy, the reputation of the Costa Brava is well established. In Bégur, you can enjoy all kinds of fish and seafood, grilled meats, Mediterranean-inspired dishes based on rice such as the (famous!) paella, or prawns from Palamos : so you will surely understand why every year, many French people decide to settle there !
