Do you like tranquility, dream beaches and hiking? Good food and cultural discoveries? Don't wait any longer: fly to Campos, a small village in the Balearic Islands about 40 kilometres from my capital Palma.

Ideally located on the south coast of Mallorca, Campos is the perfect place for a holiday away from the world and the traditional affluence of the Mallorcan coast. Surrounded by pines and salt marshes, far from the concrete seaside resorts where huge hotel complexes abound, this little corner of paradise seems to have escaped mass tourism. Located inland, Campos' origins date back to the early 13th century. From its rich past, the municipality has preserved some beautiful defensive towers, which you can visit during your holidays such as the Tower of Catlar, the Tower of Can Dameto, the Tower of Can Francina, or those of Son Cosmet, Can Cos and Can Bragues. The 16th century town hall is worth a visit, as is the splendid church of San Julian, well known for its painting by Bartolomé Esteban Murillo, a great Sevillian painter who practiced his art during the 17th century.

Above all, Campos is an agricultural village that concentrates most of its activity around the dairy and cheese industry (the city produces "requeson", a fresh cheese), as well as the cultivation of capers and almonds during the summer. Campos is particularly pleasant and is the ideal place to pack your bags if you like cycling, hiking and green excursions. One place in particular is worth a visit: the Salobrar de Campos Natural Park. Near the beaches, this site of more than 1500 hectares is a small green paradise, where the island's fauna and flora flourish wonderfully. Climb on your bike to discover the small colourful mills that line the fields that surround the city, then stop at the market (Place de la Mairie) in Campos to stock up on fresh, local produce. But the municipality also extends to the seaside resorts of Colonia de San Jordi, Covetes and Sa Rapita: it is there, on the sand of these preserved seaside resorts, that you can indulge in long breaks of idleness under the Spanish sun. The most famous beach? The one in Es Trenc, more than 3 kilometres long. Comparable to the most beautiful beaches in the Caribbean, this paradisiacal beach lined with turquoise water offers its visitors a real postcard setting to spend their days. With its shallow waters, it is ideal for families who can swim in it in complete serenity. Alongside dunes, scented pines and some chiringuitos, this preserved area is one of the most extraordinary beaches on the whole island of Mallorca. The beaches of Ses Covetes, Sa Rapita and Es Perengons Petits complete the range of beaches in the municipality of Campos, where you can sunbathe.
