In the south-east of the island of Majorca, bordered by the heavenly waters of the Balearic Sea, the village of Portocolom is a real paradise for lovers of dream panoramas.

A small fishing port on the eastern coast of the island, Portocolom combines the landscapes of a postcard to make its visitors succumb. With its small, colourful houses and well-preserved surroundings, it is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca, 65 kilometres from the capital Palma. For an optimal visit, we recommend that you start with the old town: beautifully preserved, it has its origins dating back to around the 18th century. It would even be the birthplace of Christopher Columbus! Articulated around the port, it alternates houses with bright colours, sometimes yellow, sometimes blue, green or pink, decorated with ever more colourful shutters from one residence to another. The church of Our Lady of Carmel (Mare de Déu del Carme) is worth a visit: built in the 19th century, this neo-Gothic style church is one of the oldest buildings in the city. Continue your visit towards the old quarter of Sa Capella: historical, it is the place where Felanitx wines were once stored, a local pride resulting from more than 2000 years of wine-growing on the island of Mallorca. For beautiful photos, head for the port of Portocolom: bordered by colourful houses and boathouses, this natural port is one of the most famous in Mallorca. In the middle of the moored boats, you may see some Llaüts, typical fishing boats of Portocolom: 4 metres long and topped by 3 masts, these traditional boats can be spotted in the blink of an eye among small sailing boats and other fishing or pleasure boats. From dawn to the last sunrise, the port is a pleasant place, particularly popular for quiet walks. Do not hesitate to push your visit towards the Punta de ses Cretes (Point of the Ridges) to discover the Portocolom lighthouse, proudly erected facing the bay of Portocolom since 1863, and recognizable by its white and blue stripes.

Another visit to make, that of the Castell de Santueri. Perched at the top of Puig de Santueri at an altitude of 423 metres, this castle overlooks the entire bay of Portocolom. Once the guardian of the city's seas and lands, this elegant and massive building is believed to date back to Byzantine and Roman sieges during the Middle Ages, as evidenced by remains found during excavations. If the castle is worth a visit for its architecture and history, it will offer you incredible views of the sea below from its heights. The main jewel of Portocolom, its wonderful coastline is enough to make many dream of it: warm sand, turquoise water, intimate coves... in short, the perfect combo for an idyllic holiday. To the south of the seaside resort, Cala Marçal is really worth a visit: its crystal clear water and its large pine forest in the background make it look like a small paradise on Earth. In the north this time, Cala de S'Arenal is also very popular with the island's inhabitants and tourists alike. Its authentic charm, its breathtaking view of the lighthouse of Portocolom and its fine sand make it a must for your trip! Finally, many walking trails will allow you to explore the surrounding coves, from the one of S'Arenal Gran to the creek of S'Algar, via Cala Ferrera and Cala Sa Nau, famous for scuba diving.
