Holiday lovers under the sign of the sun ? Direction the Costa del Sol, and more particularly the seaside resort of Estepona. Halfway between Malaga and Gibraltar, it is the ideal destination to make sure you have a good time under a bright sun, facing an azure sea.
With its 21 kilometres of coastline and numerous beaches, Estepona is one of the Costa del Sol's leading summer destinations. Its palm-lined seafront, golden sand and the quality of its bathing water promise holidaymakers a beautiful holiday in the sun. La Rada beach is the largest and most popular of all, thanks to its central location, its long stretch of sand (2.5 kilometres) and its pretty parasols that invite you to relax. Along the coast, there are many water activities: windsurfing, sailing, surfing, kayaking, beach games... enough to occupy your afternoons under the sun.
If the Costa del Sol is frequently called "Costa del Golf", it's not for nothing ! Like many other seaside resorts on the coast, Estepona is no exception and has some of the best greens on the coast, where golf lovers can perfect their swing. The city is also famous for its large equestrian centre : you will be able to go riding at leisure within the centre, but also in the dunes or by the sea.
Between the mountains and the sea, Estepona enjoys a privileged location, ideal for hiking and walks in a preserved natural environment. The "Estepona Naturelle" area offers numerous walking, cycling and horseback riding routes stretching over almost 174 kilometres. Equipped with good shoes, you will have the opportunity to discover the "Paseo de los Pinsapos" (the Andalusian fir walk), a real botanical jewel of the Sierra Bermeja. Adventure on the "Los Altabacles" path, on the "Puerto de la Artesa" road or on the "Pico de los Reales" path : you will reach the highest peak of the Sierra Bermeja massif (1452 metres), from where you will have an unspoilable life on the Estepona bay.
On your return from this excursion, take the time to visit the historic city centre of Estepona. Its whitewashed Andalusian houses, exuberant planters and shimmering flowers give it an incredible charm. A true open-air museum, take the "Route des Murs" : 25 buildings in the city have served as a huge canvas for painters who, through modern, abstract or trompe l'oeil paintings, have paid homage to Estepona's history through superb frescos. Take the time to admire the church of Los Remedios and the walls of Castillo San Luis, then, a few meters away, sit down in one of the restaurants of the Plaza de la Flores (Flower Square) to enjoy a freshly squeezed orange juice.
As for gastronomy, if there is one thing you absolutely must do during your stay in Estepona, it is to sit at the table of a "chiringuitos", those famous restaurants on the beach where you can enjoy the great Estepona speciality at sunset : the Pescaito Frito (fried fish).
Finally, before leaving, head towards the Pena Flamenca to admire and listen to the best flamenco of the Costa del Sol.
