Looking for a holiday in the sun, in an idyllic and relaxing setting ? Heading for the south of Spain, and more precisely the city of Mijas. Located in the province of Malaga, in Andalusia, the "white city" is divided into two parts : Mijas Pueblo (the village) and Mijas Costa (beach).
In the heart of the Costa del Sol, famous for its long sunny days, Mijas enjoys a privileged location between land and sea. This small typical village of Andalusia perched at 428 meters of altitude in the middle of the pines is to visit ab-so-lu-ment! Imagine a little : facing an azure sea, you can walk in a maze of whitewashed houses, on which are hung small planters painted blue, filled with pink, red or orange flowers... A landscape worthy of the most beautiful postcards. Mijas is also full of monuments to visit, starting with the church of the Inmaculada Concepcion, the Chapel of the Virgen de la Pena or the Mirador del Compas overlooking the Costa del Sol and offering a breathtaking view of the Mediterranean. During your stay, take the time to discover the Plaza de Toros. Built in 1900, this oval arena hosts every Sunday shows of bulls, Andalusian riders and flamenco : an ideal activity for a total immersion in local traditions.
On the beach side, Mijas Costa has 12 kilometres of coastline where it is good to swim. Let yourself go to a relaxing session on the beach of El Faro : little frequented by tourists, it is the favorite beach of the inhabitants of Mijas who come to find a little peace, while taking advantage of its transparent waters to refresh themselves during the summer heat. A little further away, Bombo beach is ideal for relaxing breaks with family or friends, but it is also a very good spot for scuba diving thanks to its clear waters. To the west of the city, you can't miss Calahonda beach. This immense stretch of fine sand, over 4 kilometres long, is the meeting point for divers and fishing enthusiasts. Rather busy, it is better to go there early in the morning, at sunrise, to enjoy a few moments of relaxation at the gentle pace of the surf. Along the coast, you can practice many water sports : windsurfing, jet-skiing, water skiing, kitesurfing, but also parachuting or golf, there will be something for everyone. Hiking enthusiasts will be able to enjoy multiple itineraries criss-crossing the pine forests, on foot, by bike and even by donkey.
In the evening, in order to satisfy you after the efforts of the day, you will be able to sit down in one of the (very) numerous "chiringuito" which mark out the waterfront, to enjoy a good meal in front of a sublime sunset. The cuisine of Mijas has its roots in the gastronomic traditions of the region : soups (gazpacho, garlic soup, cachorrenas soup...), grilled sardines, fried fish, seafood and other local wines will delight the taste buds of gourmands.
