Located on the Costa Dorada, Torredembarra unfolds its charms to those who appreciate the calm and splendour of the Catalan coastal landscapes. With its remarkable historical heritage and magnificent beaches, including one of the last natural beaches in Catalonia, Torredembarra is the perfect place for a cultural, sporting and relaxing holiday in an absolutely magnificent setting.
To discover all the richness of Torredembarra, you will first have to visit its old town. Architectural enthusiasts? You will certainly love to walk around its beautiful residences, in search of its striking buildings. From its past, Torredembarra has preserved two entrance gates, the Bassa and Padrines gates, which are today witnesses to its imposing old wall. If there is one characteristic site of the city, it is its medieval castle, accessible after passing through the Padrines gate: the current seat of the Town Hall, the Château des Icarts is the only preserved monument of the Catalan Renaissance. Built in 1565, this fortress-castle overlooking the village is recognizable by its square towers and arcaded courtyard. Another unbeatable monument during your stay under the Spanish sun: the Village Tower, or "Torre de la Vila". Built in the "Mudejar" style, it is the oldest building in the city. Just next door is the church of Sant Pere Apostol: fans of religious architecture will love this 17th century church, especially for its beautiful and impressive Baroque organ. We recommend that you attend a mass to hear the sound of this beautiful century-old instrument with its very special sound. During your walks, you will be able to observe some very beautiful residences, sometimes baroque or modernist, celebrating the architecture of a whole section of Spanish history. To do so, go to the side of Antoni Roig Street, as well as Carnisseria, Eduard Benot, Ample and Baix de Sant Pere streets, where splendid buildings dating mainly from the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries are located.
Adventure a little further on, towards the seaside of Torredembarra to discover "El Roquer", a slightly steep path along the cliffs. Connecting Torredembarra to Altafulla, this stroll will allow you to discover the fishing port, as well as very beautiful views of the sea and beaches. During this excursion, you will finally reach the magnificent and original Torredembarra lighthouse, built in the middle of its cliffs. Overlooking the sea from its 58 metres high, it is the highest lighthouse in Catalonia and the "youngest" lighthouse in Spain. We advise you to visit it (3€ per person) to contemplate from the top of its spiral stairs the panorama as far as the eye can see on the turquoise water.
But Torredembarra's main attraction remains above all its magnificent coastline, renowned for being sunny all year round. With its 4 kilometres of blond sand penetrating into crystal clear turquoise water, Torredembarra is a delight for lovers of heavenly beaches. The "Playa Paella" is the most famous beach: not far from the port and its pier, this beach with a name that makes you smile is appreciated by families for the calm of its waters. You can cycle with your family on its well-equipped promenade, but also volleyball on its fine sand, or discover many water sports activities whether you enjoy sliding or simply curious. On the agenda? Sailing lessons, surfing, sea outings, first dives, catamarans, sport fishing or windsurfing, there will be something for everyone. In its extension, the "Baix a Mar" is located in a former fishing district. In the middle of the sea, you can see the sculpture "Alpha and Omega", created by Rafael Bartolozzi. The latter is renowned for its underwater trails and the many leisure activities it offers, from its library beach to its water sports activities. More than 2 kilometres long, the beach of "Els Muntanyans" is not to be missed. Behind the dunes and the splendid marshes of the Ebro Delta, this natural beach is one of the last beaches to be preserved along the Catalan coast. Finally, the magnificent beach of "El Canyadell" is certainly the most breathtaking. Barely 70 metres long, this cove surrounded by cliffs has an extremely seductive natural charm: it is the ideal place for heavenly swimming breaks.
