It is at the gateway to the marvellous Sioule Gorges that the village of Ébreuil has been established. A nature destination par excellence, this city of character is a real cocoon of gentleness, where nature and culture are one, and whose charm does not fail to delight lovers of history and old stones. In the department of Allier, on the border with the Puy-de-Dôme, this town in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region is a small paradise of peace. About thirty minutes from Vichy, the Petite Cité de Caractère of Ébreuil is bathed by the Sioule and several of its tributaries, making Ébreuil a water town loved by visitors. If the town developed thanks to the establishment of its abbey in the 11th century, it prospered until the 19th century thanks to the cultivation of the vine. An agricultural and commercial area, but above all a craft industry, the town of Ébreuil has been awarded the "Station Verte" label, in addition to its title of "Petite Cité de Caractère". A charming building, but also a preserved natural environment and postcard scenery that will not fail to amaze you during your visits! On the list of things to see during your stay, the abbey church Saint-Léger is a must: with its three-storey defensive bell tower built in the 12th century, it is one of the oldest buildings of the Romanesque school in Auvergne, and impresses with its Carolingian-style nave, its frescoes and paintings. Pass by the Halles, the 18th century Hôpital des Charitains (now an art gallery), the Château de Chouvigny at the top of its hill, not forgetting the 15th century house with its watchtower, the 14th and 16th century Château du Châtelard, recognisable by its roof with four towers and its wide covered walkway, and also the Château de La Grave to the west of the village, which is known to have belonged to the uncle of the Marquis de Sade. On the heights of the town, the Sainte-Foy chapel completes the list of sites to visit in Ébreuil.

After taking the time to walk through the charming streets of the heart of the village of Ébreuil and its old Carolingian imperial city, take the time for a contemplative break along the water. A nature destination par excellence, Ébreuil is a little Eden for those who love fishing, hiking or canoeing: particularly suitable for water sports, the Sioule Gorges are the perfect place to discover the thrills of rafting, or for beautiful quiet kayaking! Trail, hiking, mountain bike or electric bike enthusiasts can enjoy magnificent panoramas across the Sioule Valley, via sporting or family routes, on the Sainte-Foy slopes, in the Bègues and Peyrolles woods, in the Rouzat Gorges and its famous Eiffel viaduct, or even by following the GR300... All in all, enough to get the whole family addicted to Auvergne-style holidays!
