Nicknamed the City of Orange Trees, the town of Bar-sur-Loup is a real nugget. In the heart of the Préaples d'Azur, halfway between the Alps and the Grande Bleue, Bar-sur-Loup is a small medieval village located in the Grasse hinterland at an altitude of 350 meters. Located 19 kilometers from Cagnes-sur-Mer and its beaches, and 31 kilometers from Nice, the village takes its name from the Loup, a coastal river that crosses it from one side to the other and finally flows into the sea at Villeneuve-Loubet. From its rocky spur, Bar-sur-Loup dominates the middle Loup valley, and amazes its visitors with the unique beauty of its built heritage. Large defensive village, it was in the Middle Ages a stronghold of choice a few steps from the Mediterranean, and inherited from this period some ramparts that give it a crazy charm. Another legacy of this period, its castle: castle of the Counts of Grasse built between the 14th and 16th centuries, it still reveals today a large rectangular beatitude, a wrought iron gate, a door surrounded by two cannons and three round towers. Although it cannot be visited, it remains one of the most beautiful buildings in the village and will delight you with its exterior architecture. While strolling in the city, you can't miss the church of Saint-Jacques-le-Majeur, recognizable by its carved door, and which is worth a visit for its amazing 16th century altarpiece. The Porte Sarrasine, also called the Porte de l'Hôpital, remains the only vestige of the ramparts that once surrounded the village.

Peaceful and full of charm, Bar-sur-Loup invites the visitor to stroll quietly along its old steep streets lined with old houses of incomparable charm. From many viewpoints, you can enjoy magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, including the Gorges du Loup which we recommend you visit, a site easily accessible thanks to a number of hiking trails. There are many walks around the village, so we recommend you to put on your most comfortable sneakers to discover the Gorges du Loup, but also the Viaduct of Riou de Bar, to take the road on the Chemin du Paradis, or to go to the site of the Papeterie below the village, where you can have a picnic in all serenity. The vineyards, the roses, the jasmine, the olive trees and the orange trees in espaliers will plunge you in the heart of the nature of Provence, recognizable by its heady perfumes! Finally, it is impossible to leave Bar-sur-Loup without tasting its gastronomy, and its local delicacies around the orange: bitter orange jam, liqueur, orange wine... Enough to give a small taste of unforgettable to this stay!
