In the heart of the Ubaye valley, between Provence and the mountains, Barcelonnette is a destination that cannot be forgotten. At the gates of the Mercantour National Park, between the ski resorts of Sauze and Pra Loup, it benefits from an ideal location for dynamic holidays in both summer and winter, just a stone's throw from the border with Italy.

Perched at an altitude of 1135 metres, the very southern town of Barcelonnette is not lacking in style. Whether you walk or cycle through it, it is impossible not to pass through its emblematic Piazza Manuel, surrounded by beautiful houses with colourful facades and the Cardinalis Tower, built during the 15th century. The beating heart of the town, this wooded square also has many cafés and restaurants where you can enjoy the flavours of the local cuisine, between the sea and the mountains. So, after enjoying Reblochon, Savoyard cheese, tourtons, cheese soufflés, grilled vegetables or jams (Ubaye is famous for its fruit trees), take the time to stroll through the heart of the town to discover its checkerboard layout inherited from the Middle Ages, its extensive parks and its "Mexican villas". Most of them are located on Avenue de la Libération, these Mexican villas of Baroque, Italian and Tyrolean inspiration are the current witnesses of the past growth of the town, and were built for and by rich industrialists who made their fortune in the textile industry in Mexico. The Blue Villa is a must see, as is the Costebelle Villa and in another register, the Valley Museum is also a must to add to your visit list, to learn all about the history of the inhabitants and its surroundings.

Famous for being the first nature sports town in France, Barcelonnette combines charm and dynamism in a marvellous way. In winter, the town becomes a small winter sports paradise thanks to its two cross-country ski centres and its immediate proximity to the alpine ski resorts of Pra-Loup and Super-Sauze. Downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, ski touring, but also ice climbing, tobogganing, sleigh rides and other winter activities will satisfy all your desires. In the summer, hiking is the most popular activity: in the heart of orchards, green meadows, and flower-filled passes, the magnificence of the mountain will be yours! Horseback riding, cycling, microlighting, paragliding, rafting and canoeing will complete the wide range of activities you can enjoy during your stay in Barcelonnette!
