Between Marseille and Aix-en-Provence, Cabriès enjoys a most ideal location in the heart of the Bouches-du-Rhône. Between sea and mountains, this village of Provence has all the assets in hand to allow you to discover all the most beautiful faces of the department, without suffering from the rush of tourists.

Nestled on its rocky peak between the Étoile mountain range and the Arbois plateau, Cabriès is dominated by its old castle. A very old building whose origins date back to the 9th century, this ancient stronghold is known to have been the property of the painter Edgar Mélik. The latter covered the walls of the north wing with his works, as well as the walls of the 17th century chapel next to the building. Nowadays transformed into a museum, which you can visit at your leisure, this castle houses many exhibitions of paintings by artists such as Dali and Picasso, as well as Gallo-Roman remains discovered over the centuries in the town. If it is worth the visit for the beauty of its treasures, this castle will also offer you an incomparable panorama of the Sainte-Victoire massif, the Mont Ventoux and the green valleys below. A medieval town above all, Cabriès retains an atmosphere and a generous historical heritage from this distant era. Along its narrow cobbled streets decorated with old stone houses, you will discover a whole section of local history. Pass by the chapel of Notre-Dame de la Salette in Romanesque style (5th century), the chapel of Notre-Dame des Sept Douleurs, the town hall square (which was used for the shooting of several films with Fernandel) decorated with an elegant fountain and the Romanesque church of Sainte-Marie-de-la-Nativité (12th century): with its 16th century triptych, its great Virgin and its original architecture, it is one of the most beautiful Romanesque churches in Provence.

Cabriès, in addition to its typical Provencal architecture, delights its visitors with its delicious flavours. Impossible to escape from the Provencal stew, bouillabaisse, salade niçoise, aïoli, socca, fougasse and ratatouille, pieds paquets, soupe au pistou and tapenade, bourride and poutargue. And if you're passing through Cabriès at the end of August, take advantage of the Aïoli Festival, with giant aïoli and gourmet entertainment.

Historic but modern, Cabriès has the largest shopping area in France, with more than 250000 square metres of shops of all kinds. In case you forget your swimsuit, sun cream and even a flat tyre (even if of course we don't wish you to!), you will be able to use all the services in the immediate vicinity.

If you haven't forgotten your swimsuit, and after discovering the splendour of Cabriès while hiking or cycling, head for the beaches of the Mediterranean! As the beaches of Marseille are only twenty kilometres away by road, it will be easy for you to reach them and take advantage of their many assets. Swimming, lazing around, scuba diving, surfing, paddling and sea excursions will complete your stay on the French Riviera.
