Ah, Maillane... Its name alone evokes the sweetness of Provence. In the Bouches-du-Rhône department, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, Maillane is a real gem, loved by holidaymakers because it is easily accessible. Only 13 kilometers from the TGV station in Avignon, Maillane is located in the heart of the Rhone Valley, just a short distance from the Durance River which flows north of the village. Rocked by the mistral in winter and spring, the town is composed of wonderful landscapes that will never cease to amaze you during your walks: long plains lined with plane trees, orchards where cicadas sing, hills dotted with cypress and olive trees ... everything here is emblematic of the Provencal scenery as we imagine it in our dreams! On the town side, the little squares are shaded, the wooden shutters are painted blue or green, and the alleys are narrow but their charm is so great. A perfect postcard of Provence, Maillane is best visited on foot. What to see? The church of Sainte-Agathe, or the emblematic places of the life of Frédéric Mistral! Nobel Prize for Literature in 1904, the poet Frederic Mistral is the child of the city of Maillane. His birth house, the house of the Lizard surmounted by a sundial, but also his tomb, a copy of the mausoleum of Queen Jeanne, are worth the detour to discover some beautiful examples of local architecture.

In addition to an immeasurable charm and a life articulated around the legend of its deceased poet, Maillane is known to be ideally located to allow visitors passing through its walls to discover some of the most prized sites of all Provence. But what to see in its area? The Abbey of Saint-Michel de Frigolet is a must-see, only 8 kilometres from the town, as is Avignon. Famous City of the Popes, Avignon is an open air museum. Its churches, museums, parks, restaurants, its legendary bridge on which young and old like to perpetuate the tradition of "dancing all in a circle", are all things that make Avignon a must-see in Provence, only 18 kilometers north of Maillane. Arles, the city of the photographer, only 24 kilometres away, but also Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, the banks of the Rhône where it is good to walk or cycle, Fontvieille and Tarascon are all places that you may have the chance to visit during your stay under the Maillane sun.
