It is not for nothing that many stars have chosen Paradou for a stopover. A small medieval village (yes, really very small, no more than 16 square kilometres in all), Paradou (or Le Paradou) has all the features of those destinations in Provence that we love so much. 14 kilometres from Arles, and 35 kilometres south of Avignon, Le Paradou is set in a green setting just at the foot of the Alpilles mountain range. With its very old stone houses decorated with columns and balustrades, its frontages with shutters painted in different shades of pastel tones, its narrow pedestrian alleys characteristic of the Middle Ages and its gardens planted with fragrant and colourful essences, Le Paradou is definitely an invitation to stroll. Romantic to the core, the town is home to numerous small restaurants perfect for discovering the delights of local gastronomy, such as the "Bistrot du Paradou". On the menu? Artichoke à la barigoule, one-eyed bouillabaisse, quince paste, rouille, olives, cod brandade, pompe à l'huile, poutargue, tapenade, soupe au pistou, crespeou and other sweets from Provence will delight the taste buds of young and old alike.

Here, the main activity is hiking. Put on your sneakers and/or get on your bike to discover the oratories, fountains, and rich farmhouses that dot the area and give it a picturesque character. From quiet paths to more sporty routes, you will discover the incredible chain of the Pène from which the Tours de Castillon stand out in the sky, south of the village of Le Paradou, which since the Middle Ages have guarded the plain of the Vallée des Baux. On foot, on horseback or by bike, Mouriès to the east, the 19th century marshes, Saint-Martin-de-Crau to the south, but also Arles, Fontvieille, Maussane-les-Alpilles or the perched village of Les Baux-de-Provence and all the communes that make up the Alpilles Regional Nature Park will be perfect sites for hiking, to be discovered both for the charm and history of their walls and for the nature panoramas they have to offer. The quarries of Light, the Archaeological Site of Glanum, but also the incredible fortress of Les Baux-de-Provence (3 kilometres away) and the famous mill of Alphonse Daudet (6 kilometres away) are all unmissable places in the region, which you can easily visit during your stay at Le Paradou!
