A seaside district of the Mathes commune, La Palmyre is prized above all for its beautiful fine sandy beaches and its famous Bonne Anse bay. In this paradisiac setting, you can practice sailing, kayaking, kiteboarding, paddle but also enjoy the famous spot of La Coubre, on the wild coast, to perfect your surfing or bodyboarding. In the heart of the bay, nature lovers can observe many species of migratory birds and, at low tide, fish on foot. If you want to discover the beauty of the coast from the sea, you can also board a sailboat from the port of La Palmyre.
After enjoying the Atlantic Ocean, discover the resort of La Palmyre. Near the central beach, you can admire a villa built by Le Corbusier, Le Sextant, and the Russian Villa, with beautiful oval curves. If you are not afraid to climb 300 steps, then go to the lighthouse at La Coubre. From the top of its 64 meters, you will have an admirable sight on the wild coast and on the bay. But don't miss the resort's most famous attraction, the famous La Palmyre zoo. Among the most visited zoological parks in Europe, it gathers more than 1600 animals of 115 different species.
Surrounded by the forests of La Coubre and Les Combots, La Palmyre also offers a privileged environment for walking, horse riding or cycling. By taking certain paths, you can reach the magnificent 9-hole golf course of La Palmyre and the amusement parks : The Palmyra Adventures and the Indian Forest. The 40 kilometres of cycle paths will allow you to visit the neighbouring towns of La Tremblade and Saint-Palais-sur-Mer and even venture further on the Vélodyssée. After a good day's stroll, sit on the terrace of a good restaurant and enjoy all the flavours of Saintonge's gastronomy : Marennes-Oléron oysters, crickets, pibales, stew, stuffed, millas...
