A small town in southern Corsica, about ten kilometers north of Ajaccio, Alata is a delight for sea and mountain lovers. With a large territory stretching from the sea to the massifs of Punta di Pozzo do Bordo and Punta Mora, this charming village, nestled at an altitude of 400 meters, will amaze you with its flawless authenticity. Rich of a whole panoply of hamlets, Alata reveals magnificent valleys covered with oak forests, and a scrubland quite favourable to pedestrian, equestrian or cycling excursions according to your desires.

Offering a calm and rural setting to those who are lucky enough to set down their suitcases, Alata is rich in a very ancient history: indeed, the town is an ancient stronghold of the family of Count Charles André Pozzo di Borgo, one of Napoleon I's cousins, of whom the latter was the sworn enemy! The descendants of this cousin also built the Castle of La Punta, which is still the most imposing building in Alta. But the visit doesn't stop here in terms of heritage, far from it! Don't miss the church of San Benedetto, identifiable by its 19th century bell tower, and the 16th century church of San Pietro dei Liani: in Pisan style, it is decorated with frescoes and paintings inspired by the painter Raphael!

Fountains, wash houses and fortified houses complete the inventory of Alta's built heritage, a heritage that you can also take the time to discover thanks to a whole range of hiking itineraries. Some of them will lead you to the top of the village, at 782 meters of altitude, while others, also accessible to mountain bikes, will allow you to go around the hamlets of Alata, and even to reach Ajaccio not far from there! And if you prefer the fresh air to city tours, note that many paths will lead you through the Corsican countryside, while others will lead you to the discovery of fantastic panoramas by the sea and through the dunes, classified as a "Natura 2000" zone!

Finally, don't miss the opportunity to make a refreshing stop at Lava beach: nestled in the heart of a gulf bathed by a generous amount of sunshine, this fine sandy beach reveals beautiful coves where it is good to sunbathe under the sun and swim in complete peace!
