Explore Serra di Ferro
In the south-west of the Isle of Beauty, between Coti-Chiavari and Propriano, Serra-di-Ferro is one of those places that we would like to keep secret forever. Fans of postcard scenery, heavenly coves to relax in and unspoilt nature, this is the perfect place to plant your parasol, winter or summer.
On the north shore of the Gulf of Valincu, the village of Serra-di-Ferro sees its origins going back a long, long way, as evidenced by the presence of an archaeological site on its land, dating back to the Neolithic period. Here, the Roman occupation is attested in many places, sites and monuments, around the beautiful Tanchiccia pond, on the site of Basi. Menhirs, dolmens (the Turtle Table, the Paladin...), hut bottoms, rock shelters and other funerary chests have been found during excavations, treasures to which are added the buried wrecks found in the port, which date back to the Roman period. Three Romanesque chapels, as well as two medieval towers, the Torra di Raffè and the Torra Vechja, complete this little historical parenthesis. The houses of Serra-di-Ferro, built around the 19th century church and presbytery, are typical of the local architecture. Rather modern although its origins are very old, the municipality is home to many small churches and chapels, as well as remarkable residences dating from the 19th and 20th centuries. Discover its Genoese towers on its western coast, including the Torre de Capriona and the Capannella tower on the edge of Cupabia Bay. Pass over the Stiliccione bridge that spans one of Taravo's tributaries, and finally, after these rather urban visits, discover the magnificence of the abundant nature that surrounds the city.
From the mouth of the Taravo to the Juniperia of Porto Pollo, through the dunes and the wetland of Cupabia, you will discover all that the village of Serra-di-Ferro has to offer. The Tanchiccia pond is particularly suitable for hiking. Spread over nearly 28 hectares, it is well known to ornithology and nature lovers who come here all year round to observe the birds that have made their home around the lake. You will also be able to come across numerous plant species such as orchids and aquatic plants, not forgetting amphibians, insects and rare species which make this place a real protected nugget. But what is sure to amaze many is the coastline of Serra-di-Ferro. Bordered to the east by the sublime Taravo valley, and bordered by the Customs Trails, the Serra-di-Ferro coastline will delight lovers of relaxation as well as nautical aficionados. Almost one kilometre long, the beach of Cupabia is reputed to be one of the most beautiful beaches in Corsica. Central, sunny, it will be ideal to perfect your tan as you practice water sports. Surfing, paddle, but also scuba diving and swimming will be part of your stay under the sun of the Isle of Beauty.
