It is 16 kilometres east of Montélimar that the small town of La Bégude-de-Mazenc is located. Between culture, heritage and preserved landscapes, this pretty corner of France offers its visitors magnificent panoramas over the valleys of the Pre-Alps.

Bathed by the waters of the Roubion and the Jabron, the perched village of La Bégude-de-Mazenc has everything to please. In the heart of the Drôme, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, La Bégude-de-Mazenc is a land marked by history. Seat of the Knights Templar, ruined during the 14th century, the town still has an important historical heritage that you can discover during your excursions. What to see? The Loubet castle: medieval fortified house rebuilt in the 18th century, it is known to have been the residence of the former President of the Republic, Emile Loubet. The 19th century Protestant temple is worth visiting, as is the small hamlet of Châteauneuf-sur-Mazenc. A perched medieval village, it impresses visitors with the magnificence of its imposing enclosure, found of gates and belfries. You will be able to discover there the magnificent Mont-Carmel chapel of the XIIth century, but also the Saint-Pierre church of the XIIth century, as well as the vestiges of the old medieval fortified castle, unfortunately destroyed for the most part during the Wars of Religion. Climb up through its cobbled streets and its salt square, to finally be able to contemplate from the top of its hill a panoramic view of the whole Valdaine plain and the Rhone valley below. If the visit is worthwhile during the day, at sunset, the detour is even more beautiful!

Back in the historic centre of La Begude-de-Mazenc, take the time to stroll around the Émile Loubet park: a small green and quiet bubble, this park is appreciated by families who can go mountain biking, horse riding or hiking. Finally, the more experienced hikers and the more sporty can walk or cycle back to Montélimar (also accessible by car, 15 minutes from La Begude-de-Mazenc). Star of the Drôme Provençale, Montélimar, capital of nougat, is a destination particularly appreciated by lovers of old stones who can revel in its rich and captivating heritage. If the visit of the Adhémar castle is a must to do, you can also opt for a ride on horseback, bicycle or on foot through the fragrant lavender fields that line the surroundings of the city... Memories guaranteed!
