In the north-east of the Parc Naturel Régional du Perche, 36 kilometres from Chartres and Évreux, Senonches is the perfect place to stay for those looking for calm and authenticity. Between forests and rivers, castles and charming buildings, this elegant town has a lot to offer.

It is in the Perche, in the Eure-et-Loir, that the town of Senonches is located. In the heart of the Centre-Val de Loire region, Senonches is above all renowned for its absolutely idyllic natural setting. A green resort, Senonches attracts every year holidaymakers who are curious to discover the splendour of its natural heritage. Its main asset? Its forest! Spread over almost 4,300 hectares, the state forest of Senonches is the largest in the Eure-et-Loir, but also one of the largest in France. On foot or by bike, depending on what you want, you can discover it thanks to a vast network of signposted footpaths that will allow you to walk the length and breadth of the forest. Towards the road to Longny and the Perche bocage, along the ponds and canals that allow walks in the cool of the water, around the Arthur-Rémy lakes or in the heart of the forest, you will discover all the unique beauty of this pretty corner of the Perche. Also, many are the remarkable trees that dot its territory: the "oak chair" and "the three brothers" are among the most emblematic, you can easily discover during your stay in Senonches.

Senonches, in addition to being a real Eden for nature lovers, is also a real gem for those who are passionate about history and old stones. In terms of religious heritage, the Notre-Dame church is a must-see: built on the foundations of an ancient abbey in the 12th century, this fortified church flanked by an observation and defence tower is worth a visit for its architecture as well as for its splendid stained glass windows. The church of Saint-Pierre, the church of Saint-Maurice and the chapel of Saint-Pierre complete the inventory of religious sites in Senonches. In terms of civil heritage, the town is not to be outdone, as it boasts many dazzling buildings, including several majestic châteaux. Listed as a Historic Monument, the old Château de Senonches has a 12th century keep, a door made of grison (local stone) as well as two main buildings from the 16th and 17th centuries. As you walk through the fortified town, you will come across the remains of the castle ramparts and fortifications in the Parc de la Pomme de Pin, as well as a beautiful old school (now the Town Hall), a listed cinema, the splendid Château de Tardais, lime kilns and washhouses, which complete the inventory of the town's architectural heritage. On foot, by car or by bike, you can also discover the park and the Château de la Ferté-Vidame, the Château de Villebon, the magnificent Château de Saint-Jean, the Château de Maintenon or Chartres, a must-see in the region.
