Well located on the Atlantic coast, this dynamic and natural seaside resort offers many corners of paradise to discover during excursions with family or friends, starting with the magnificent Dune du Pilat, located just 14 kilometres from Gujan-Mestras, or Bird Island and Arcachon.
For you, holidays rhyme with bike trips between land and sea, idleness and oyster tasting at sunset ? Then it is in Gujan-Mestras that you will have to put down your suitcases. Oyster capital of the Arcachon Basin, Gujan-Mestras is definitely turned towards the sea. City with 7 ports spread over 7 kilometres of seafront, it will surprise you with its beautifully preserved cachet. Start your visit of Gujan-Mestras with the discovery of its 7 mythical ports : the Hume, Meyran, Gujan, Larros, the Canal, the Barbotière and the port de la Mole. It is by taking the coastal path that you can discover them in turn, and contemplate the authentic landscapes winding through the salt meadows, the waters of the Basin and the ancient fish reserves. Emblematic of the commune, the port of Larros is the port to visit absolutely if you were to choose only one. Fishing port of capital importance during the inter-war period, it is today the most representative and most captivating of the ports of Gujan-Mestras thanks to its small oyster huts, its shipyards, its museum (the House of the Oyster) and its legendary oyster tastings at any time of the day accompanied by butter, lemon and white wine. Fed by the Landes canal, the port de la Hume is also one of the most popular ports in the commune : both an oyster and pleasure port, it is a privileged place to stroll, and is above all famous for its supervised beach, the "Plage de la Hume". The "Plage de la Hune" is the only beach in Gujan-Mestras that you cannot miss during your holidays. In the heart of the tourist district, this family beach lined with pines and tamaris offers an impregnable panorama on the Basin of Arcachon. You will be able to settle down there for long parentheses of relaxation, but also to make beach volleyball, pedal boat, skimboard, paddle or kite-surfing since the beach is famous for its spot well known by the devotees of slips.

From the commune and across the Basin, more than 220 km of tracks will allow you to move through this exceptional natural site. Arcachon, the Teich, Lanton, Audenge, the Dune du Pilat and Cap Ferret, so many magnificent places which will have no more secrets for you after your stay in Gujan-Mestras. We advise you not to miss the beauty of Lake Magdeleine: located on the commune of Gujan-Mestras, this lake hidden in the middle of a pine forest is an ideal place for moments of relaxation, picnic or family fishing.
From the port of La Hume, you will have the opportunity to embark on sea cruises to some of the most beautiful sites in the Arcachon Basin, such as the Île aux Oiseaux and the cabanes tchanquées which dot the coast, creating a magnificent picture when the sun sets or rises, and colouring the horizon and sea with pastel colours. You can also rent boats for outings at your own pace, depending on the winds and tides.
In addition to the beach and nature excursions, Gujan-Mestras is a family delight with its huge leisure base including several amusement parks, a casino, a bowling alley, a large swimming pool, an accrobranche park, a disco, restaurants and a 27-hole golf course. The "Kid Park" will allow the little ones to discover water activities such as canoeing or tobogganing, "La Coccinelle" will allow them to play on many inflatable structures but also to rub shoulders with small farm animals, when "Aqualand", the largest water park on the Atlantic coast, will fill young and old with its many water activities.
