In Basse-Terre, on the island of Guadeloupe, the town of Gourbeyre is located in the very south, between Trois-Rivières and Saint-Claude. Ideally located, it is a real Eden for those who love nature and hiking. Between sea and mountains, Gourbeyre, which was once known for its coffee culture, has become a renowned seaside resort and thermal spa during the 20th century. Here, there is no question of opting for a "cushy" holiday, everything, absolutely everything, is brought together to give visitors the desire to get moving, and to set off to discover some of the most emblematic sites of Guadeloupe. First thing to put in your suitcase: your trainers. Here, it climbs! The Col de l'Échelle, Lake Flammarion, the Flammarion Falls, the Malanga River, the La Parabole waterfall, the peaks of Morne Joseph, Morne Cadet, Gros Acajou and Houelmont are all must-see hiking sites for those who wish to visit Gourbeyre and enjoy extraordinary panoramas of the Guadeloupean landscapes. In group, solo, in duo or with a guide, you will also have the opportunity to go to the side of the volcano La Soufrière. Highest point of the Lesser Antilles, the "Old Lady" offers from its 1467 meters high unforgettable views over almost the whole island and Gourbeyre below.

If it is indeed an emblematic site of the commune of Gourbeyre, which amazes many visitors every year, it is undoubtedly the Blue Basin. Ah, its name alone leaves you dreaming, doesn't it? The Bassin Bleu is actually one of the most dazzling waterfalls in the area known as "Butterfly Island". A marvellous basin perched at an altitude of 620 metres (all the same!) on the Plateau des Palmistes, it draws its turquoise blue waters from the famous La Soufrière volcano not far away. With its natural water slides, its dream setting and its fresh water, the Bassin Bleu is the ideal place to swim, just to cool off when the thermometer goes crazy. The Dolé Public Pool is also worth a visit: located between Gourbeyre and Trois-Rivières, this warm water pool in an enchanting environment has been attracting visitors for its therapeutic benefits for hundreds of years. Between springs and waterfalls (Carbet Falls), rivers and pools of immeasurable beauty (such as the Bain des Amours and the hot baths of Matouba in particular), Gourbeyre is without a doubt a city of water that will delight both walkers and those who love to laze in the sun. And for sunbathing breaks or bathing sessions, there's nothing better than heading for the seaside resort of Rivière-Sens, attached to Gourbeyre. Well exposed, at the foot of the Caribbean Mountains, the Rivière-Sens beach unrolls several metres of volcanic black sand that contrasts marvellously with the generous vegetation and the blue of the sea. Warm, calm waters, small picnic tables and plenty of starfish make it a must for anyone visiting Gourbeyre! In addition to swimming there, you can put on masks and snorkels to observe the aquatic fauna along the beach, which is definitely a great spot for snorkeling! What a great way to make this Caribbean vacation memorable!
