The town of Lamentin is located in the department of Guadeloupe, about fifteen minutes from Pointe-à-Pitre. Far from mass tourism, Lamentin is one of the most popular destinations for green tourism in Guadeloupe. In the northern part of Basse-Terre, the town is separated from Sainte-Rose by the course of the Grande Rivière à Goyaves, and from Baie-Mahault by the course of the ravine Sans Nom. At the bottom of the Grand Cul-de-Sac marin bay, in the bay of Lamentin created by the mouth of the eponymous river which crosses the whole commune, Lamentin is a real pearl. A former pirate's hideout in the 18th century, this rather quiet residential commune is a place where life is decidedly good. If you take the time to walk around the town, you will discover the recent architecture of Lamentin, made up of beautiful buildings built by the architect Ali Sur in the 1930s, such as the town hall and its square, the church, the court or the covered market. What to see in Lamentin ? The Ravine chaude ! A thermal centre adored by curists, it offers a whole range of à la carte treatments which you can enjoy in an idyllic setting in the heart of a tropical décor. Built in the 1960s, this spa perched at an altitude of 110 metres exploits natural springs at 33°C, which come directly from the edge of La Soufrière.

If in the past the town of Lamentin lived essentially from the cultivation of coffee, manioc, cocoa, cotton and sugar cane (as shown by the Grosse Montagne, the current vestige of a past based on the exploitation of sugar cane), this dynamic town now lives essentially from tourism. Our advice? To get a feel for the town, there's nothing better than a little stroll around the fishing port of Blachon! You can also take the opportunity to admire the magnificent and astonishing marine mammals in the manatee breeding centre, or go on an excursion to the Îlet Christophe, the Îlet Caret or the Îlet Fajou by boat! Sea excursions, hikes to the Cascade de Bois Bananes or the Cascade aux Écrevisses, water sports, mangrove discovery, swimming and relaxing breaks under the generous Guadeloupean sun will complete these holidays, worthy of the most beautiful postcards.
