Nicknamed the "Mont Saint-Michel of the Lands", Le Puy-en-Velay is an exceptional site. In the heart of a green environment, shaped by fire and water, Le Puy-en-Velay is a concentrate of history, culture, nature and adventure, perfect for a holiday that changes.

A town in the heart of the volcano, Le Puy-en-Velay is one of those destinations with unsuspected charm that contains within its walls treasures of history and an incomparable heritage. Starting point of the Régordane (GR700, 240 kilometres long) as well as of the "Via Podiensis" which leads pilgrims in the direction of Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, the city of Le Puy-en-Velay seems to be frozen in time. Capital of the Haute-Loire, in the south-east of the Massif Central, this sanctuary town is a jewel which, as you walk along its old streets steeped in history, will tell you about the adventures of its ancestors, especially in the Haute Ville. If there is one must-see visit, it is the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Annunciation. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site as part of the Pilgrim's Way to Santiago de Compostela, this cathedral is one of the most visited places in the city. This late 11th century Romanesque building stands at the foot of the Rocher Corneille, on one of the slopes of Mont Anis. If it is worth a visit, it is above all for its decorations as well as for its cloister, which is known to be one of the most beautiful in Europe. Its chapel of the penitents is worth a visit, as is the Place du For, which offers a unique view of the town's tiled roofs and its houses adorned with mullioned windows. Not far from there, the Hôtel-Dieu and its interactive museum are worth a visit, as are the Saint-Georges church, the old 19th century Italian-style theatre, the 18th century town hall, and the Henri-Vinay garden, known for housing the works of the sculptor Charles Crozatier. The other emblem of Le Puy-en-Velay is its Saint-Michel d'Aiguilhe chapel. A treasure of Romanesque art from the 10th and 12th centuries, this chapel is perched 88 metres high at the top of a volcanic rock and is known for its construction, but also (and above all!) for the incomparable views it offers from its promontory, which can be reached by a staircase attached to the cliff. Magnificent by day, splendid by night, it shines with a thousand lights during events such as the Puy de Lumières, which aims to highlight the local heritage through night-time illuminations. A few steps away, the statue of Notre-Dame de France on the Rocher Corneille is worth a visit, both for its unique statue and for the views over the town that this viewpoint allows you to contemplate!

Le Puy-en-Velay is also a land of traditions. Famous for its bobbin lace that you can discover at the Crozatier Museum, this City of Art and History is also a lively destination. Throughout the year, several festivals and other street activities create a lively atmosphere in the town, such as the Fêtes Renaissance du Roi l'Oiseau, the Interfolk folklore festival, or the Nuits Basaltiques. But Le Puy-en-Velay is also a gourmet city, thanks in particular to its culinary emblem, the Green PUY Lentil, which delights young and old alike in numerous dishes. Bucolic walks along the Borne river which waters the town, visits to the nearby fortress of Polignac, canoeing or rafting in the Loire, hiking through the Velay and mountain biking will finally give this stay a little taste of adventure.
