The village of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil is located in the Haute-Loire department, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. Only 17 kilometres from Le Puy-en-Velay, Saint-Julien-Chapteuil is a medium-sized mountain village, spread out between 771 and 1408 metres in altitude in the heart of the Meygal massif. A paradise for hiking and mountaineering, the town has several peaks on its territory, peaks that you can walk along with the seasons to enjoy incredible views over the village. To the north, Mont Chanis, perched at a height of 1231 metres, watches over the village, along with Suc de la Faye, Mont Rouge and Peyre de Bard. The highest point of the village is further east, with Le Mounier, while to the south, La Tortue, or Montcharret will delight walkers. The idyllic setting of Saint-Julien-Chapteuil is particularly suitable for hiking and mountain biking, which you can do on the route to Santiago de Compostela or through the Meygal massif!

Saint-Julien-Chapteuil is a destination with a charming heritage and some absolutely splendid buildings to see, such as its church. The church of Saint-Julien, as it is called, is situated a little way up from the village, and reveals to its visitors a squat, massive architecture, inherited from its construction during the 12th century. The Chapelle de la Chapelette in the eponymous hamlet and the Jules Romain museum in homage to the author born in Saint-Julien-Chapteuil will complete this visit. During your walks, you can also discover the very picturesque mills of Neyzac: called "cascade" mills, they are located on a small stream and are mostly dated from the 17th century. We also recommend the discovery of the Suc de Chapteuil, an essential part of your stay: 1 kilometre from the town, this magnificent rock perched at an altitude of 1031 metres is fascinating for the beauty of its basalt organs, as well as for that of its ruined tower. It is the current witness of an ancient castle, the castle of the lords of Chapteuil, and is an unmissable stopover during your stay. From its promontory, you will be able to discover a breathtaking panorama over the village and the neighbouring valleys. And in the area? The Souteyros waterfall, the Chaudeyrolles waterfall, the ski resort of Les Estables (24 kilometres further south) and Le Puy-en-Velay will be added to the "to-do list" of your holidays in the Haute-Loire!
