Overlooking the Champsaur valley, in the heart of the Hautes-Alpes department, the one that is rightly nicknamed the "Station Soleil" is one of those little corners of paradise that are hard to forget. Perched between 1220 and 2754 metres above sea level, Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol is dominated by the Pic Queyrel, the Puy des Pourroys, but also by the Pic du Vieux Chaillol and some of the most beautiful summits of the Écrins massif. If the village is worth the detour for its restful side, it is above all the ski resort on the adret that attracts the attention of visitors passing through Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol. This multi-faceted family resort benefits from a beautiful southern exposure, offering its visitors a high level of sunshine as well as quality snow, perfect for enjoying all the pleasures of skiing, depending on your level and your desires, whether on the open slopes or through the larch forest. In detail, you will find a rather small but well laid out ski area, consisting of 15 kilometres of slopes divided into 3 green runs, 5 blue runs and 5 red runs for experienced skiers. What do they have in common? All of them will offer you magnificent panoramas, on the Col de la Pisse (2354 meters of altitude), the Pointe de la Lozière, the eponymous wood (1852 meters), the Col du Vialet (2240 meters), the Pointe de Lingustier and the Pointe Nord de la Vénasque (2637 meters). On the practical side, we can only recommend the long green piste of the Chemin, the Jardin des Neiges for toddlers discovering the joys of skiing, or the Lauzière area for great skiing sensations.

Versatile, this small resort which has everything of a big one offers a wide choice of activities in addition to downhill skiing, from snowshoe hiking to snowboarding, but you can also test the flight over the valley in a hot-air balloon, cani-luge, ski touring, dog-sledding, tobogganing or snake-gliss, for a 100% fun moment of sharing with family or friends. Lovers of cross-country skiing? Heading for the neighbouring areas of Valgaudemar, Haut Champsur or Gap-Bayard: totalling more than 130 kilometres of groomed slopes perfect for both alternative and skating, these areas located just a few minutes drive from Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol will allow you to enjoy both sporty and contemplative skiing, perfect for discovering the wonderful panoramas of the valley.

During the summer period, the valleys bathed in light that surround the town are particularly appreciated by hikers and other trekking and mountain bike aficionados who can enjoy all their favourite activities. From the GR50 in particular, you can contemplate some of the most beautiful sites near Saint-Michel-de-Chaillol, such as the Aiguilles de Framourou, the Col de l'Escalier, the Vieux Chaillol and the Canal de Malcros...
