Benquet is located at the gates of Mont-de-Marsan. A few steps from the banks of the Adour, Benquet is located in the Landes department, in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region, a place well known for its mild and particularly pleasant climate throughout the year. In the Pays de Marsan, which marks the border between Chalosse and Haute Lande, Benquet is undoubtedly a town of water: watered by the streams of Pesqué and Saint-Jean, two straight tributaries of the Adour, Benquet is a place particularly conducive to bucolic walks or cycling, to the coolness of its waterways.

Rich of a very old history, the commune of Benquet was populated as of Prehistory and Antiquity, it is in any case what delivers the testimonys of researchers after having found on its territory the traces of a Roman station and axes dated of the Neolithic. As far as heritage is concerned, in Benquet, the visitor will discover during his walks splendid monuments scattered here and there on the territory of the village. To see? The church of Saint-Christau from the 13th century, recognizable by its typical Landes bell tower, but also the church of Saint-Jean-Baptiste in Benquet, whose altar, sculpted by Jean-Eloi Ducom (a Landes sculptor), is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci's Last Supper. The town hall of Benquet, housed in an old chapel, the Château Vieux, an old house which would have been the pied-à-terre of Jeanne d'Albret and Henri IV, but also the superb Château de Laurens Castelet and its hundred-year-old cedar tree (private) will complete your discovery of the local heritage.

If Benquet is adored by hikers, it is also because it is one of the essential stages of the Way of Santiago de Compostela, on the Limousin route. On this route, you can discover the presence of an old hospital, as well as a spring, the "source of the cristalles" said to be miraculous (near the church of Saint-Christau), which would have the power to heal skin diseases. Also take the time to walk around the south of the village to discover its hillside lake, a small paradise of nature and greenery. Our advice? Push your visit a little in the direction of Mont-de-Marsan: prefecture of the Landes, Mont-de-Marsan is a must. Crossed by the Douze and the Midou, which form the Midouze, it is a must for those who dream of a quiet, gourmet interlude. Its bars, cafés, bistros, its Fêtes de la Madeleine, its museums and its markets will complete your immersion in the heart of the Landes.
