The small village of Mauroux is located in the Lot department, renowned for its history and rich heritage. Proud village of the Lot Valley and of the Vineyard, it flourishes south of one of the meanders of the river that gives its name to its valley. On the borders of the Agenais and Quercy, on a vast limestone plateau overlooking the Lot, Mauroux surprises by the beauty of its rich heritage. Once you arrive in the village, leave your car behind to prefer gentle journeys; but in addition to walking or cycling, here you can also enjoy donkey trekking, to take the time to visit while having a good time with a big-eared, four-legged acolyte. In Mauroux, there are many marked circuits that you can find to discover the contours of the village, trails from 5 to 15 kilometres long, perfect for young and old alike, which will allow you to learn all about the heritage of Quercy, the wines of Cahors and the local gastronomy. If the Lot is particularly appreciated by fishermen who will find fish in abundance, the river is also appreciated for small bucolic walks in barges, and for bike rides along its banks, allowing "cool" walks on hot summer days. After having walked through the castles and old buildings surrounded by a singularly luxuriant nature, and having discovered the church Notre-Dame-de-l'Assomption de Cabanac on the village side, do not miss to make a tour of the ruins of the castrum d'Orgueil. Totally abandoned in 1390, this medieval fortified village still displays today some ruins of its ancient contours which testify to the medieval life in Mauroux and its very ancient occupation.

Further north, you will have to cross the Lot to discover the Château de Bonaguil. A real historical nugget located in the commune of Saint-Front-sur-Lémance, 16 kilometres from Mauroux, this large building just a stone's throw from the Dordogne is a 13th, 16th and 18th century fortified castle, perched on a rocky spur an hour from Sarlat and Cahors. With its panoramic views over the neighbouring green valleys, but also its exhibitions, rooms, costumed representations, cave and drawbridge, you will plunge into the heart of the medieval world in the blink of an eye. The Château de la Coste further east, or the Château Anglars, not forgetting the caves of Lestournelles and Fontirou (40 kilometres away), are all visits that will help you to perfect your knowledge of this beautiful corner of France. But let's not forget Cahors the cultural and gourmet! Situated 42 kilometres from Mauroux, Cahors is a must during your stay for the richness of its architectural heritage as well as its gastronomy. To make your stay even more memorable, on the menu of all the good tables, walnuts, melons, saffron and Quercy truffles will be sublimated in omelettes or in delicious small simmered dishes, as well as cabécou, duck confit, ceps and foie gras, which go perfectly with local wines!
