That's why people like to come to Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue for a holiday: to see the country, collect fabulous landscapes, and marvel with their families.

Both a fishing port and a renowned marina on the coast, Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue can also boast of being a quality oyster-farming centre and a dynamic seaside resort. The first thing you do when you arrive: go to the port. It's good to stroll on its quays, along the large and colourful fishing boats that give the city a very special soul. Offshore, the informed will distinguish the Island of Tatihou, the diamond of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue. Fortified by none other than Vauban, it is a perfect place for a bucolic stroll through a vast botanical garden, but also for a more cultural and scientific discovery if you feel like going to the maritime museum, the ornithological observatory or the magnificent, stocky and imposing Vauban fort. Built in the 18th century, it has been listed as a UNIESCO World Heritage Site since 2008 and reveals inside its fortifications a chapel, a gunpowder magazine and a former barracks. Back in the heart of Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue, it is its counterpart, its twin sister that we advise you to discover, the Tour de la Hougue. To reach it, nothing could be simpler, just follow the dike which starts at the Chapelle des Marins, and which will lead you to the foot of the fortified enclosure of the tower. Built during the 17th century, also classified by UNESCO, its role was to protect what was called at the time the "most beautiful harbour in France", and to offer incomparable panoramas to the lucky visitors on the coast and the island of Tatihou off the coast. In addition to this, a visit to the Chapelle des Marins, the Porte aux Dames, the Gosselin grocery store full of delicacies, but also the oyster beds, the discovery of the Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue fire at the very end of the pier and the remains of the Saint-Martin church in Rideauville will complete the inventory of sites not to be missed in Saint-Vaast-la-Hougue.

After feasting on oysters, Cotentin cider, grilled lobster, shellfish and crustaceans, after walking, horseback riding or cycling along the coast in the direction of Saint-Marcouf, Barfleur or Cherbourg, head for Jonville beach in the neighbouring town of Reville. A real little corner of paradise, with its turquoise water, clear sand, sunshine and beach bar, it will be perfect for families who dream of bathing days, and for those who love to laze around and sunbathe, who will always find room to hang out their towels thanks to more than 8 kilometres of sand!
