The village of Rivière-Pilote is located in the very south of Martinique, between Le Marin and Sainte-Luce. Rich of a very old history, the commune is well known to have been during the period of slavery a true refuge for the rebels, during the XVIIIth century. In terms of local heritage, Rivière-Pilote is not lacking places to see, like its famous church of the Immaculate Conception: easily identifiable thanks to its colonial-style facade painted in white and green, it is the oldest church in the whole of Martinique. To visit? The Ecomuseum of Martinique is a must to learn all about the history of this wonderful island, rich in culture, colourful landscapes and ocean panoramas. You will discover many collections of objects dating from prehistory to the colonial era, but also exhibitions dedicated to the slave period, the plantation system and a former distillery. A dynamic, cultural city, it is above all an agricultural town and owes its reputation to its rum production, which delights the taste buds of connoisseurs. To discover its greatest secrets, a visit to the La Mauny distillery is a must; from the harvesting of sugar cane to the tasting of local products and distillation, you will be able to learn all about the making of Martinique rum!

What we like about Rivière-Pilote is above all its absolutely magnificent panoramas, especially on the beach of Anse Figuier. Easily accessible by car, bicycle or on foot, this heavenly beach lined with coconut palms and huge trees is a real treat for the eyes. Well equipped, it has children's playgrounds, restaurants and picnic tables where you can enjoy delicious local specialties under the sun. As far as gastronomy is concerned, the restaurants facing the sea will be perfect for an introduction to Creole cuisine: exotic fruits and vegetables (sweet potato, manioc, mango, guava, bananas...), but also cod or shrimp accras, smoked chicken, grilled lobster, cod chiquetaille, banana gratins and other desserts based on coconut, pineapple and banana will delight all the taste buds. In addition, the site is ideal for family swimming sessions, sunbathing and water activities! Snorkeling is also the queen activity here: with its white sand and turquoise water, the Anse Figuier beach is ideal for observing fish and the seabed, all with an absolutely magnificent view of the Diamond Rock, one of Martinique's most famous jewels. Sunbathing, swimming, climbing on the rock face of the Zombi rock, hiking on the side of Sainte-Luce and the Etang des Salines will finally complete your stay in Martinique.
