Moistened by the calm waters of the Blavet, which flows into the ocean only a short distance away, the town of Locmiquélic faces Lorient, from which it is separated by the river. Unconditionally turned towards the sea, this welcoming land is the perfect place for a Breton break whatever the season!

Ah, Locmiquélic... Just its name alone makes you think of the clattering of boats. Small, large, tourist or commercial, all are welcome in this former fishing port converted into a marina, which sees the ships coming and going in the bay of Lorient throughout the day. Opposite the port is the Ile Saint-Michel; this is precisely where the ship "l'Isère" was sunk, known for having transported the Statue of Liberty to New York. To discover the astonishing peace and quiet of its seafront, there is nothing better than a short stroll around the Pen Mané and Sainte-Catherine marinas, which are well sheltered and protected from the winds and waves of the ocean. If they are perfect for a short morning stroll, they are also the starting point for the shuttle buses that will take you through the bay of Lorient. On your return from this sea trip, it is impossible to miss the Pen Mané district. To see? The remains of the fortifications of the Seven Years' War, with this large 18th century fort which turns its back on the sea to face Lorient, and which offers from its heights a 360° panorama over the sea, Locmiquélic and Lorient. A short walk along the banks of the Blavet river, through the Pen Mané nature reserve follows. Protected, this splendid site is home to many plants and birds of the marshes in particular (egrets, stilts, grey herons, harriers ...), fascinating lovers of ornithology as well as the curious. Our advice: take the time to walk around to discover the old houses on the tip of Pen Mané, and the 3000 boats moored in the bay of Lorient!

Back at the port, it is impossible not to succumb to the delights of the local gastronomy. In one of the many small restaurants in the town, ideally on the harbour front, fish, shellfish and other seafood have a place on your plate. Mussels, oysters, clams, crab, lobster, langoustine (which is celebrated every year in mid-August)... But that's not all as you can also enjoy delicious buckwheat pancakes filled with Guémené andouille de Guémené and salted butter, accompanied by a glass of chouchen or a bowl of cider! For dessert? Caramel pancake with salted butter, kouign-amann, Breton far... OK, all this is not very dietetic on paper, but it's the holidays, you'd be wrong not to take advantage of it!

Finally, after a good walk or bike ride through the city, stop in Lorient to visit its famous harbour, and why not head for the small beach of Port-Louis, or the huge beaches of Gâvres and Plouhinec! What's on the agenda? Swimming, lazing around on the soft sand, but also water activities such as paddle, sailing, surfing, water skiing, water walking, bodyboarding... In short, something to delight the whole family and make these holidays in the south of Morbihan unforgettable!
