During the shooting of one of his films in 1956, the American screenwriter Peter Viertel falls under the charm of the biarrotes waves and takes advantage of his stay to practice his favorite sport, still unknown to the French coasts at that time. Since then, many surf schools have settled in the Basque city which has already hosted several editions of the French championships.
