The village of Oppède is located in the department of Vaucluse, in Provence. In the heart of the Luberon Regional Natural Park, this charming village is sure to make your heart skip a beat. Ten kilometres from Cavaillon, famous for its melons, and 35 kilometres from Avignon, Oppède is made up of two distinct districts: the lower part has modern buildings with a typical Provençal style, while Oppède-le-Vieux, perched on its rocky spur, is the historic heart of the town. Overgrown with dense vegetation, this ancient 13th century fortress is a real haven of peace, inviting you to stroll along its winding cobbled streets. To discover this village, nothing better than to leave your car in the garage and prefer to go out on foot, in order to stroll through the old houses that adorn the village. You can discover very old stone buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries, tastefully restored, properties with a great cachet that will plunge you into the heart of the traditions of Provence. Here, if the vegetation is abundant, the ruins are also numerous, just like the arches and the vaulted passages, which does not fail to give a small "trick" in addition to Oppède. From abandoned oratories to collapsed houses, it is impossible to miss the remains of the wall that once protected the town, and its old, very old Romanesque church, the only vestige that has withstood the trials of history. Climb to the top of the Pointe du Rocher, the highest point of the village, to discover the Tower and one of the walls of the medieval castle which was once the property of the Counts of Toulouse and then of the Papacy in the 12th century. Moreover, from this high point, you will be able to contemplate impregnable panoramas on the valley of Coulon until the plateau of Vaucluse, the Cevennes and the Mont Ventoux! If the Collegiate Church of Notre-Dame d'Alidon (10th century) is worth a visit for its vault, its paintings and frescoes, note that the troglodyte oil mill, the fountain and the old hospital are also worth a look. After all these visits, you will appreciate all the more the calm of the shaded and flowered squares that dot Oppède, for restful and refreshing breaks very much appreciated when the sun gives generously of its person in summer.

But the main asset of Oppède is its nature. After visiting Oppède and its perched fortress, hikers and mountain bikers can enjoy the trails that lead them to the Vallon des Conques, the Mourre de Cairas, or the wonderful Luberon Cedar Forest. Cavaillon and the banks of the Durance, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, but also Gordes, Roussillon, Salon-de-Provence and Avignon will complete your stay in Provence.
