Between Luberon and Ventoux, in the heart of Provence, Roussillon has something to make hearts turn over. With its singing name, this village situated in a green setting amazes its visitors, whether they are in search of tranquillity, the great outdoors, cultural stays or a change of scenery.

Singular and astonishing, the village of Roussillon is located in the department of Vaucluse. A true masterpiece in its own right thanks to the contrasts of its colours, this Mecca of Provence located about fifty kilometres east of Avignon is classified as one of the "Most Beautiful Villages in France". A land of ochre, Roussillon can be visited on foot to allow you to better discover the unique beauty of its alleys full of history. There is no doubt that its old flowered houses with ochre-coloured facades give it the special charm that visitors readily recognize. Most of these colourful 17th and 18th century facades are home to a large number of shops, artists' studios and other galleries in the town centre, which you will have to discover during your stay. Above all, this picturesque village conceals many treasures that you will be able to observe as you stroll through its old streets. From the Place du Pasquier to the Place de l'Abbé Avon, which houses an old bread oven, passing through the old gate, the current witness of what was once a large medieval fortified wall, it is impossible to miss the belfry that towers over a good part of the town. Reshaped during the 19th century to become the current bell tower of the town church, this old gate of the Castrum is one of the oldest buildings in Roussillon. Take the time to stroll along the old parapet walk to admire the calm of the surrounding green countryside in the early morning, before finally discovering the Place de la Forge, once the courtyard of Roussillon castle. Pass by the Place de la Poste to see its cattle fountain, the Place de la Mairie, the Place Pignotte, not forgetting the Naïades fountain and the Saint-Michel church. In medieval style, this 11th century building located near a cliff hides an incredible religious heritage which is the pride of the village's inhabitants. Heart of the 18th century and stone canopies are here side by side with historical paintings and wooden statues, to form a remarkable ensemble that is a must see. If the site of the church is so popular with visitors, it is also for the breathtaking panorama it offers over the valleys and mountains of the Luberon.

In addition to its undeniable palpable charm, Roussillon has many other assets up its sleeve. What makes its success beyond the borders of the region is its ochre. The first wealth of the area under the Ancien Régime, ochre is here at the centre of everything. Impossible not to mention the old ochre quarries, nowadays transformed into an astonishing walking area that captivates many young and old every year. Its "Ochre Path" is a must to do: ideal for visiting the quarry and taking in the eyes, it will tirelessly lead you to the "Needles of the Fairy Valley" and the "Giant's Causeway", so many red chimneys of grandiose beauty sculpted over time by man, water and wind. Whether you are a lover of quiet bike rides, a passionate hiker or an inveterate contemplative, you will find in Roussillon a whole host of marked and safe itineraries, allowing you to discover the magnificence of this village and its surroundings in complete safety. Finally, don't miss, about twenty kilometres away, the town of Rustrel: known for its "Colorado Provençal", this spectacular place will also lead you through the beauty of a very old ochre deposit...
