Top! My market is a real institution in the Vaucluse, the Sorgue river waters me through and through, my architectural and natural heritage makes me a perfect destination for a change of scenery, cultural and dynamic holidays, I am, I am? Velleron!

In the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region, in the heart of "Greater Avignon", Velleron is located 15 kilometres south of Carpentras, 7 minutes from L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue, 14 kilometres from Cavaillon, and 25 kilometres from the village of Gordes and its famous abbey of Sénanque. About 20 minutes from Avignon, the village of Velleron is therefore at the heart of a territory rich in sites to be discovered, in a region known for its natural and cultural heritage. And Velleron has no reason to be ashamed of its famous neighbours since the town is home to a quality architectural heritage, becoming over the years an unmissable event for those wishing to discover the Vaucluse heritage. Former Gallo-Roman oppidum, which became a fortified village during the Middle Ages, Velleron still has some sections of its ancient ramparts, particularly on the Rue de la Brèche side. The houses here are old, made of white stone, many decorated with foliage and flowers that give the village a crazy cachet. Pass by the impasse des Calades, its oratory, its old 18th century hospital, without forgetting its old chapel of the Grey Penitents and its church Saint-Michel de Velleron built in 1174. The old flour mill opposite the rue Madeleine Séchan is worth a visit, as are the private mansions that dot the town centre and the two castles that adorn the village. Elegant properties built at the time of the Counts of Toulouse, the Château de Cambris and the Château de Crillon are to be added to your holiday "to do". The first one, in Renaissance style, has seen its stables transformed into dwellings and is worth the detour for its beautiful decorations. As for the second one, the Château de Crillon, it is really worth a look for its beautiful architecture. Now the Town Hall, it dominates the plain of the Comtat Venaissin crossed by the Sorgue and its tributaries from its 69 meters high. A castle of character, with its machicolations, its crenellations, its gunboats, it has all the aspects of the defensive castle of the time.

Ah, the Sorgue: it is certainly Velleron's most beautiful asset. With its crystal-clear, soft and quality waters, this river which has its source in Fontaine-de-Vaucluse is certainly one of the most beautiful in the world, with its shady walks which every year see fishermen, walkers and onlookers passing by. To discover the banks of the Sorgue and the valleys surrounding Velleron, several walking and cycling routes are available, such as the loop "Canal du Moulin de Crillon" (3.5 kilometres), the long-distance hiking trails "La Pareilly" (8 kilometres), "Piégros" (6 kilometres), or "La Carichonne" (12 kilometres)... Sporty and contemplative outings that will please the whole family.

If there is an event that locals and holidaymakers alike wouldn't miss for anything, it's the Velleron Farmers' Market. An exceptional market, registered with the Gault & Millau and ranked among the 100 most beautiful in the whole of France, it is the perfect place to shop for fresh fruit and vegetables at low prices. Cherries, pumpkins, salads, asparagus, strawberries, melons and courgettes, which will delight young and old alike!

Finally, several neighbouring towns and villages are worth a visit. Pernes-les-Fontaines and its magnificent fountains, L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue the capital of antique dealers, but also Le Thor and its cave of Thouzon, without forgetting Avignon the famous City of the Popes, Carpentras, Cavaillon, Gordes and its Abbey of Sénanque... So many visits that will make these holidays in Velleron unforgettable!

The village of Velleron hosts a regional walk every day at 6pm where we could find fabulous artisanal and regional products (goat cheese on Saturday, orange marmalade, first quality olive oil, syrup with herbs of Provence, ...). It is also home to two high quality bakeries and pastry shops. The village of Iles-sur-Sorgue, 5 minutes away by car, is very welcoming for outings, with many bars, restaurants along its famous canals and tourist or craft shops in its pedestrian streets.
