Between Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Les Sables d'Olonne, L'Aiguillon-sur-Vie is an ideal holiday destination for a peaceful holiday. Near the Atlantic coast, this pretty village will allow you to enjoy the joys of the ocean while enjoying the serenity of the Vendée countryside.
As you stroll through the Aiguillon-sur-Vie, you will surely be surprised to find that the river crossing the village is called La Jaunay and not La Vie. The latter flows about ten kilometres further north and flows into the Atlantic Ocean at Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie. A legend, linked to the church, indicates that the origin of the name comes rather from the extension of the village allowed by the construction of this religious building ("The sting survives"). Continuing your walk, you can admire the Notre-Dame church, restored in the 19th century, the wash-house, the fountain and statues of Saint Helena and Saint Mark.
After this visit of the village, set off to discover the surrounding countryside. Numerous footpaths and cycle paths will allow you to appreciate the bocage vendéen. Walk to Lake Jaunay where you can fish, canoe, kayak, paddle and even aquakart, a completely ecological water kart. On two wheels, the Vendée Vélo network offers you more than 1000 kilometres of cycle paths to appreciate the diversity of the landscapes and the rich heritage of the region. From L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer, this network offers you a fast way to reach the beautiful beaches of Saint-Gilles-Croix-de-Vie and Brétignolles-sur-Mer where you can swim and practice many activities : sailing, surfing, bodyboard, towed buoys...
Swing fans will be delighted to be able to indulge in their favourite sport in the golf course of L'Aiguillon-sur-Mer. They can practice in its state-of-the-art training centre or tease the little white ball along its 18-hole course lined with maritime pines and oaks.
