Originally, Vila Olimpica, located on the seafront, was the place of residence of Barcelona's sailors. The houses were rather rough, surrounded by warehouses or containers, and Vila Olimpica was part of Barcelona's industrial landscape. It was in 1960 that the transformation of this peaceful district really began. Thanks to the 1992 Olympic Games, the district has been completely transformed : chic, modern and commercial, it is now a pleasant place to live, much appreciated by Barcelona residents, especially because of its proximity to the beach.

Located between the Poblenou district and the city centre of Barcelona, this district has developed over the years and seen its notoriety grow thanks to its prestigious Marina, its superb boats and its seafood restaurants.

On the Marina, you can't miss the imposing bronze fish, sculpted for the 1992 Games : 35 metres high, it is the symbol of post-Olympic Barcelona. At sunrise or sunset, the golden reflections of the sun on the structure are magnificent. Below, the pergolas house numerous restaurants and other cocktail bars. If the day, the atmosphere is rather calm and tourist, it reaches its peak as of the night come. Immediately the casino, discotheques and open bars, night owls flock by the hundreds.

You will not be able to miss the two immense towers that are the Mapfre Tower and the Arts Tower-Hotel, rue de la Marina. Like two immense guardians, they announce the entrance of the district, the direction of the subway and the sea.

In the distance, you will see the W Hotel, an exact copy of Largo Winch's HQ, in the eponymous comic strip. Facing the sea, this architectural feat in the shape of a sail is 99 metres high. It is one of the most modern monuments in Barcelona that photography lovers do not fail to immortalize during beautiful sunsets.

During your stay, you will certainly have the opportunity to walk in some parks of the district. The most grandiose (to see absolutely !) is certainly that of the Ciutadella : ancient citadel, it is here that sits the Parliament of Catalonia. You will find a modernist castle, also called the castle of the three dragons, but also a fountain with waterfall, a stream with boats and pedal boats, sculptures and a zoo.

Back from this beautiful park, take the time to admire the billionaires' yachts along Joan de Borbo's passig, visit the Barcelona Aquarium or enjoy a shopping session at the Maremagnum shopping centre !

Finally, along the Barceloneta beach, Barcelona's most touristic beach, lovers of idleness and sport will be able to indulge in numerous water sports, such as sea scooter, windsurfing and paddle.
