The Gotico district, located in the city centre, is the main witness of Barcelona's millennial past. This is where the town of "Barcino" was born. Roman ruins and Gothic architecture cohabit harmoniously. The two towers from Roman times bear witness to the imprint left by Emperor Augustus. An example of Gothic art dating from the 13th century is visible not far from the Carrer Laietana. The cathedral "Seu" (for "Saint Eulalia") has the particularity to house 13 geese permanently (in homage to the martyrdom of the young Saint Eulalia) and to be built over the Romanesque cathedral which itself took place on an ancient early Christian basilica. These building successions indicate that Barcelona was occupied by the Romans, Visigoths, Muslim armies and Carolingians. It is possible to admire many remains of Roman times (Plaça Nova, the imposing columns of the Temple of Augustus at the Museum of History, the Santa Anna fountain).

This district can be compared to a kind of labyrinth : the old streets, dark, narrow and often pedestrian, are intertwined, while the Nova plaza stands out for its surface and its monumental architecture. An antique market takes place there every Thursday and very often, groups of dancers from Sardana (typical Catalan dance) perform. If you want to taste Catalan specialities, go to Plaça del Pi the 1st and 3rd weekend of the month ! A market of local producers takes place there. Do not hesitate to enter the church of Santa Maria del Pi to admire the imposing rose window 10 metres in diameter (the largest in Catalonia). The atmosphere of this district, with its painters exhibiting their works in the streets, recalls, in a certain way, the Montmartre district of Paris.

For fashion, vintage or current fans, we advise you to explore Ferran and Avinyo streets : you will have every chance to find the rare pearl for your wardrobe ! Another tip : the Boqueria Market, on the famous Rambla, which has many fruit, vegetable, meat and fish shops... ideal for the week's shopping. As for restaurants, we recommend La Plaça Real, located not far from La Rambla, which is the ideal place to taste quality tapas. Before that, we invite you to have a rooftop aperitif on the terrace of the luxurious Hotel Do: the view is magnificent. To close the evening, the Jamboree, also located Plaça Real, will delight live music lovers (mainly jazz but also RnB, hip hop, varieties,...).
