In the heart of the D-Day landing beaches, just ten minutes from the city of Caen, Ouistreham is one of those historic destinations whose Normandy coastline is dotted. Cultural, but also dynamic and sunny, this seaside resort is a must for family holidays.

Ouistreham, his name still resonates today in each of our history books. Marked by the history of the Second World War, Ouistreham played an important role in the outcome of this war, becoming, thanks to its Sword Beach, one of the five "D-Day landing beaches". From this past, Ouistreham has preserved a rich heritage that you will absolutely have to discover, notably by visiting the Museum of the N°4 Commando Franco-Britannique (totally dedicated to the D-Day Landings of 6 June 1944), or the Museum of the Atlantic Wall. Located in a former firing headquarters on the Atlantic Wall, this "bunker" museum accurately reconstructs the living conditions of the military during the war.

Today, three kilometres of fine sand are the delight of bathers passing through Ouistreham, this magnificent beach is worth the nickname "Pearl of the Mother of Pearl Coast" to the seaside resort. With its gentle slope, the one now called Riva Bella Beach is a delight for all families. "Dog-friendly", it is popular for fishing on foot, especially during high tides when the sea retreats more than two kilometres offshore. It is appreciated by swimmers, but also and especially by sportsmen and women who come in large numbers to enjoy its beautiful waves, making it a surf and kitesurfing spot that is also renowned in Calvados. You can also go on a stand up paddle, a longe-côte, a surfboard or a sand yacht, opt for towed buoys, jetovator or sea scooter sessions, go for sea trips by boat, yacht or kayak, get your boat licence, in short: enjoy this coastline so favourable to water sports.

Located at the mouth of the Orne and the Caen Canal, Ouistreham is the perfect place for outdoor walks. Several magnificent natural sites are worth a look, such as Pointe du Siège, a splendid dune cordon where more than 271 species of remarkable flora and fauna have been identified. Stroll along the quays of the port, climb to the top of the lighthouse (after having climbed 171 steps all the same, but it is the only lighthouse that can be visited in Calvados so the experience is worth it!), rent a rosalie to discover the heart of Ouistreham, and also take the towpath for a superb walk along the canal linking Ouistreham to Caen, for a walking, horse riding or cycling excursion lasting about fifteen kilometres all the same.

Finally, Ouistreham will surprise you with its elegance: with its casino where you can play poker or Blackjack, and its thalassotherapy centre offering many treatments with a sea view (such as hydro-massage baths, hydrojets, massage and wraps), impossible to get bored during your holidays.
