A land of ceps, chestnuts and wide open spaces, Villefranche-du-Périgord has something for lovers of history and old stones.

The oldest bastide in the Périgord, Villefranche-du-Périgord enjoys a reputation beyond the borders thanks to its famous cep market. It is on the border of Lot-et-Garonne that this unusual town is located. Its history, Villefranche-du-Périgord transmits it through the warmth that emanates from its old yellow stones, emblematic of this beautiful corner of the Périgord Noir. To take its pulse, there is nothing better than a short walk to discover its narrow streets adorned with splendid old houses. The Place de la Halle is characteristic of Villefranche-du-Périgord: lined with arcades built during the 12th century, it is recognizable by its Tuscan columns and its grain measurements. Splendid 13th and 16th century residences, with or without arcades, sometimes adorned with high towers, also point all around the square, giving this famous city an undeniable charm. In the course of its fountains and wash houses, you will also discover its old flowered houses, crowned with pink, purple, green and white, but also its Notre-Dame church with its atypical facade, its convivial Grand'Rue, its Saint-Étienne-des-Landes church, its 16th century Consuls' Tower and the ruins of the Château des Fournels.

Is it raining? Do you want to know all about local traditions? Head to the Maison de la Châtaigne to discover its playful and sensory areas for an immersion in the culture of this local treasure. The Museum of Perigordian Traditions will also come to perfect your knowledge of the traditions, discoveries and history of the country. However, it is impossible to stay in Villefranche-du-Périgord without visiting its cep market, which is renowned beyond the region's borders. Every day from 4pm, vendors, gourmets and cooks rush to the market to stock up on mushrooms. If you prefer to eat rather than cook, push the door of one of the many restaurants in the commune, to treat yourself to omelettes with truffles and ceps, foie gras, walnuts, chestnut cakes, apple or Perigourdine tarts, duck with morels, pork with chestnuts... Something to satisfy the taste buds of the whole family!

Finally, take advantage of this stay to discover all the most beautiful corners of the Dordogne and the neighbouring Lot. The Château de Bonaguil, those of Les Milandes and Castelnaud-la-Chapelle on the banks of the Dordogne, the Caves of Cougnac and the hiking trails along the meanders of the Lot will complete your holidays in the Périgord.

There are several good restaurants in Villefranche: "Le Café du Commerce", "Ô Faim Goût'R Mets", "La Bastide". For those who love hiking, there are a multitude of circuits, not to mention the sites to visit in the surrounding area.
