The second largest city in Guadeloupe, the second most populated commune after Les Abymes, Baie Mahault is the link between the two islands of Grande-Terre and Basse-Terre. Attached to the municipality of Pointe-à-Pitre, Baie Mahault is truly the beating heart of Guadeloupe, its economic heart, thanks to a huge commercial area that delights visitors passing through the island. But what tirelessly attracts to Baie Mahault is its coastline: with a coastline wide open on the Dupuy bay, the Lamentin bay and the Baie Mahault from which it takes its name, the commune is a real Eden for lovers of nautical activities. Overlooking the Grand-Cul-de-Sac marin, Baie Mahault constitutes with its peninsula the western part of the Autonomous Port of Guadeloupe.

If in the past the sugar cane culture was one of the main economic resources of the commune, the latter has over the centuries largely turned to tourism, and when one sees the richness of the cultural, built and natural heritage of Baie Mahault, it is easy to understand why If the city is mainly industrial, its architectural heritage will allow you to understand the history of Guadeloupe and to discover its highlights. What to see? The splendid Saint-Jean-Baptiste church built at the beginning of the XXI century by the architect Ali Tur, an impressive building made of reinforced concrete that contrasts with the houses that dot the town. During your walks, you will discover many wooden mansions dating from the 19th century, such as the Maison Wonch, the Maison Dupuy or the Maison Descamps. You will also have the opportunity to see the old Auguste Nouy sugar factory built in the middle of the 19th century whose brick chimney is still proudly standing.

But the stars of Baie Mahault are obviously its beaches! Bathed in turquoise water to the north and south of its territory, the town has several kilometers of magnificent fine sand beaches. In addition to swimming, you can opt for beautiful and long idleness by the sea, but also discover the bays that surround the town from a boat!
