Need a total change of scenery, dream landscapes and naps in the tropics? Head for Saint-Anne, one of the most popular seaside resorts in Guadeloupe. Located 21 kilometres east of Pointe-à-Pitre, Saint-Anne amazes travellers with its pure water and white sand.

Sun, coconut palms, fine sand and turquoise water: is there a better combo for a perfect holiday? With its postcard panoramas, Sainte-Anne dazzles its visitors all year round. On the south coast of Grande-Terre, between Saint-François and Le Gosier, this seaside resort with its heavenly beaches is full of assets for a successful holiday.

A historic destination, Sainte-Anne owes its name to Anne of Austria who had her port built for the sugar and rum trade. The Damoiseau distillery, a real local institution, is an absolute must during your stay, as is the Gardel sugar factory. For a total immersion in the traditions and local culture, and to discover all the splendours of island architecture, head for the picturesque village of Sainte-Anne: its church or the Musée Léthière located in the street of the same name are beautiful examples of St. Anne's buildings.

As for hiking, Sainte-Anne will delight you with its many complex and varied faces. From the Morne l'Escade to the wooded valleys of the Great Bottom, passing through the dolines of the Eastern Plateaux and the coastal strip, you will never get tired of the panoramas of the Caribbean Sea.

But Saint-Anne's main asset is undeniably its coastline. Bathed by waters of astonishing beauty, Sainte-Anne has many beaches where you can indulge in long periods of idleness. Caravelle beach is one of the most popular: with its turquoise lagoon, white sand and coconut palms, it is considered one of the most beautiful in Guadeloupe. Let's dive into the water, tanning session, scuba diving or jet-skiing, you will find something to suit all your desires. The beach of the village is the most central in Sainte-Anne: very popular with tourists and more particularly families because of its calm waters, its fine sand and its ideal setting for swimming, it will also allow you to dine with your feet in the water in one of its many restaurants. Further on, the beach of Bois-Jolan extends over more than a kilometre: its water at 29°C and its high palm trees make it the perfect place for a picnic in the shade. As for water sports activities, sliding enthusiasts will be spoiled! Kitesurfing, paragliding, boat trips, surfing, cruises around the island, scuba diving, parasailing, water skiing and windsurfing will be on the programme.

Finally, take advantage of this stay to learn about the delights of Creole flavours: vinaneau, thazar, colas bâtard, langouste, chatrou, panelling and clams on the shellfish side, or calalou, bébélé, crabes farcis, colombo de poulet, matété, cabri, bokit on the salty side. Don't miss a taste of local fruits and vegetables: corossol, sweet potato, carambola, sugar cane, manioc, christophine, yam, gombos, pineapple, coconut, papaya, passion fruit and guavas will delight the whole family. Finally, rum, a local symbol, can be enjoyed at any time of the day or night!
