Near the Swiss border in Haute-Savoie, the peaceful town of Châtel welcomes many holidaymakers every year in search of calm and splendor. This tourist resort of winter and summer sports is part of the Gates of the Soleil, one of the largest ski areas in the world, began to develop after the Second World War. The inauguration of its first ski lift in 1947 marked the birth of its skiing area, now 83 kilometers Slopes are separated into two parts, all skiers can come and rub themselves, no matter what their level, on one side: Super Châtel, part of the slopes for novice skiers. Linga / Pré-la-Joux which are more suitable for experienced skiers.
Life does not stop at Châtel once the ski season has passed. The summer season sees a myriad of physical activities like golf, football or paragliding, which are the delight of holidaymakers. The rendezvous for mountain bikers is located at Mountain Bike Park, a space with twenty routes sorted by difficulty. Strong thrill seekers should under no circumstances miss the Fantasticable, unique attraction of Châtel. The concept is simple : hanging in a harness, you fly over the hamlet of Plaine-Dranse at a top speed of almost 100 km / h and at over 200 meters in height. This unforgettable experience allows you to get an incomparable view of the Abondance Valley while experiencing one of the greatest adrenaline rushes of your life !
If you prefer to keep your feet on the ground, come and visit the sumptuous Saint-Laurent church. Built in the 15th century, this hidden gem of neogothic style inspires serenity thanks to its soft and harmonious colors.
Gastronomy, Châtel has nothing to envy the other Savoyard communes. The valley of Abondance even has a cheese in its name. This specialty with amber color is the main ingredient of a local recipe, the Berthoud, in which it is watered with white wine and tasted with potatoes. An appointment to savor typical recipes of the corner : the Table Savoyarde ! As the name implies, this rustically decorated restaurant serves only hearty Savoyard dishes, to the delight of gourmets and gourmets alike.
