Nestled in the heart of a magnificent preserved environment, Saint-Gervais-les-Bains is the highest municipality in France, perched at an altitude of 850 metres. Located in the heart of the Alpine massif, in the Haute-Savoie department, the city extends to the slopes of Mont-Blanc, the highest peak on the European continent with its 4809 metres high.
Ski lovers, you have come to the right place: Saint-Gervais being located on the "Evasion Mont-Blanc" ski area, you can enjoy the pleasures of skiing on its 445 kilometres of slopes! Freeride spots, snowpark, huge ski or toboggan runs, hiking and cross-country skiing trails: you can enjoy a wide range of activities in the resort of Saint-Gervais, whatever your level. Instructors will also be able to introduce young and old to the joys of skiing, thanks to private or group lessons.
Hiking enthusiasts, put on your snowshoes and get off the beaten track to discover the region and its rich fauna and flora by following in the footsteps of chamois, foxes and other ibexes that inhabit the mountains. Between the landscapes of spruce forests and the immaculate white horizon, the panoramas are breathtaking. Whether paragliding, aboard a hot-air balloon or the Mont-Blanc Tramway, any means is possible to discover the resort and its surroundings. As one of the last rack and pinion trains in France, the Tramway Mont-Blanc will be your best means of transport: in winter, it will take you to the Prarion-Bellevue ski area, and once summer arrives, you can access the Bionnassay Glacier. It is from this glacier that experienced mountaineers will be able to attempt the mythical ascent of Mont Blanc.
At the foot of Mont-Blanc, the charming village of Saint-Gervais-les-Bains will reveal its rich cultural and architectural heritage. Walk through its streets with their typical houses: you will have the opportunity to observe pretty chalets, many chapels and several churches, such as the church of Saint-Nicolas, a real jewel of local Baroque art with blue painted vaults. Take the time for a coffee or mulled wine on the terrace, facing the breathtaking panoramas offered by the mountains.
As you will have understood, people come to Saint-Gervais-les-Bains for its mountains, its pleasant living environment, its many sporting activities but also for its terms. The first mountain spa, the town is popular with people taking the waters who pack their bags in the resort for a relaxing break. Since 1806, its thermal baths have been renowned throughout the world for the therapeutic benefits of their pure and crystalline water, coming directly from the roof of Europe. It is in the heart of a magnificent 10 hectare wooded park that you can take a break from the hustle and bustle in an idyllic setting.
Finally, after a day exploring the mountains and enjoying the charms of the resort, sit down with family or friends in one of the resort's many restaurants to taste Savoy cheeses, tartiflette, raclette or Savoyard fondue.

The conditions of our stay were not the most favourable but all the activities other than skiing allowed us to spend a pleasant stay (snowshoeing, hang-gliding, hiking, etc...). The good products of the region allowed us to make nice and tasty meals (the "Maison des Alpes").

As there are no ski lifts, it was an opportunity to discover cross-country skiing in Les Contamines, and to do some superb hiking and skiing.
