Explore Saint Christol
Now attached to the commune of Vérargues to form the new town of "Entre-Vignes", the village of Saint-Christol is located in the heart of the wine-growing plains of the Hérault, on the border with the Gard. 15 minutes from Lunel, 20 minutes from the banks of the Etang de l'Or, 25 minutes from Montpellier, 30 minutes from Nîmes and 25 minutes from the most beautiful beaches of the Mediterranean, this is the perfect place to stay to enjoy the most beautiful corners of this region rich in a myriad of sites to visit.
A former religious enclave administered by the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem during the 12th century, Saint-Christol has everything from a small corner of paradise that one would like to keep secret, just for oneself. Appreciated by the pilgrims who used to walk along its footpaths in large numbers, Saint-Christol has quickly become a major centre for trade and exchanges on a European scale. Today, the town is largely focused on wine culture and is also renowned for its Camargue traditions, which you can easily discover during your stay. Its architectural heritage in particular, bears the traces of its ancient traditions, like its church built in the 19th century, or its municipal clock which is worth a visit for its beautiful wrought iron bell tower. A cultural town, Saint-Christol delights art lovers thanks to its omnipresent culture, but above all thanks to its craft ceramics workshop, which allows the most curious to discover the secrets of stoneware and porcelain manufacture, still made today thanks to ancestral techniques. Gourmets and other wine lovers will be able to stop off at the "Viavino" wine tourism centre to (re)discover all the rich flavours of the local wines and the history of those who have been making these delicate wines for decades. With the family? Head to the Dardaillon pond for a mini golf break, before heading to the "Tyroliane" Adventure Park in Saint-Christol! With its courses in the pine forest, its giant maze, its playgrounds, its playful mini-farm (with dwarf goats, pigs, peacocks, birds and donkeys) and its workshops, it is the perfect place to discover the joys of accrobranche or zip-line, in an exceptional environment.
But to stay in Saint-Christol is also to have the opportunity to enjoy some of the most beautiful panoramas that this fertile and hilly region has to offer. On foot or by bike, Lunel, which peacefully blossoms along the right bank of the Vidourle, is worth the detour, as is Mauguio and its Étang de l'Or, perfect for hiking. Cultural Montpellier is a must see for its museums, street-art, beautiful squares, small restaurants and friendly atmosphere, while the seaside resorts of La Grande-Motte, Aigues-Mortes, Le Grau-du-Roi and Palavas-les-Flots are perfect for bubbling under the sun, eating ice cream at sunset, swimming and a whole host of water activities to suit your mood!
