It is on the heights of the Rhuys Peninsula, in the Morbihan department, that the splendid Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys takes place. Well known to artists for its wonderful landscapes, this resort is one of those destinations where life is good. To discover it, nothing beats opting for hiking or cycling excursions, via its many walking routes. You will be able to contemplate the richness of the local architecture, typically Breton, dotted with many listed buildings. The abbey church of Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys in particular is one of the most beautiful monuments in the city: in Romanesque style (rather rare in Brittany), this former Benedictine abbey once welcomed monks in charge of salt cultivation in the marshes of the peninsula. We recommend a visit, both for its unique architecture and the classified furniture it contains.

Among the essential stops during your stay is Port-aux-Moines: once used as a shelter for the monks of the abbey, this small enclave is a peaceful and ideal place to stroll for lovers of the sea. Do not hesitate to climb up over the port to discover the dolmen of Men Maria: if the route to reach it is pleasant, it is especially for the viewpoint that its belvedere offers on the coast that we recommend you visit it.

Take the time to stroll through the beautifully flowered Gildasian streets, and do not hesitate to push the door of one of the many art galleries in the town. Painters, sculptors, visual artists and photographers have long since chosen this inspiring destination as their home port, and it is likely that this stay in Brittany will help you understand the reasons. To guide you, here's a hint: look towards the sea. Yes, the sea, an eternal source of wonder for young and old alike, is the main attraction of Saint-Gildas. From azure to indigo, turquoise to aquamarine, topaz, marine and emerald, the waters that touch the Gildasian beaches are renowned for their brilliance. Changing according to the seasons and the weather, the landscapes of the seaside resort will dazzle you at every hour of the day.

Hiking enthusiasts? Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys has everything you need! If you had to choose only one itinerary? This would obviously be the Customs Path, also known as the GR34. In both winter and summer, it offers its brave visitors incomparable views of the sea and coastline over 180 kilometres from Arzon to Locmariaquer. Once used to monitor the open sea and potential smugglers, it now allows walking enthusiasts to discover the entire Breton coast. In Saint-Gildas-de-Rhuys, he runs along the cliffs of the Grand Mont, one of the resort's most breathtaking sites. Located on the tip of the same name, these cliffs overlooking small secret coves offer a truly magnificent panorama of the ocean as far as the eye can see, Quiberon and its bay in the distance, as well as the islands of Hoëdic, Belle-Île-en-Mer and Houat. Although rather sporty, this 8.6 kilometre (2h15) ride is really worth a visit!

If there is one beach where you can swim, it is certainly the "Goh Velin" beach: considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the Rhuys Peninsula, it extends over more than a kilometre of fine sand. Well known to sailing and water sports enthusiasts, it is also a privileged place for family swimming. The beaches of Port-Maria, "Kerfago", the small beach of "Kerver", the cove of "Poulgor", the beach of "Kercambre" and the beach of "Poul" have finally been added to the list of beaches in the resort.
