You don't have to spend much time in the 14th district to fall under his spell. This district of Paris is above all a real invitation to stroll. During your walks, you will discover pleasant little streets, charming squares, many artists' studios and many other reasons to marvel like the oldest observatory in the world, the old abbey of Port-Royal or the Massa hotel. You can also follow in the footsteps of the painters, writers, musicians and poets who, in the first half of the 20th century, made Montparnasse a joyful and creative bohemian place.
Around the Tower and the Montparnasse Station, enjoy the small streets full of cafés, crêperies, restaurants, theatres and cinemas. Also walk along the boulevard du Montparnasse to admire the beautiful breweries that invite you to go back to the beginning of the 20th century : the Coupole, the Dôme, the Rotonde and the Sélect. Then visit the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation which houses the works of the famous photographer or the Cartier Foundation for its incredible glass building, its Theatrum Botanicum, a magnificent wild garden, and its beautiful collection of contemporary art. Next to the Cartier Foundation, the Montparnasse cemetery invites you to pay tribute to some artists who rest here : Baudelaire, Maupassant, Duras, Gainsbourg...
On the way to the Catacombs, pass by Daguerre street. Partly pedestrian, it is very lively thanks to its fruit and vegetable shops, its food shops, its cafés and its restaurants. On the Place Denfert-Rochereau, the Catacombs offer a strange and unusual spectacle. 20 metres underground, millions of bones from ancient Parisian cemeteries have been deposited in these old Gallo-Roman quarries. The visit allows you to explore some of the galleries with their somewhat gloomy decor. To change your mind, then go for a walk in Montsouris Park. This English garden is a true haven of peace with its small tree-lined paths, its lake and its waterfalls. Right next door, the Cité internationale universitaire contributes to the charm of the neighbourhood thanks to the stylized architecture of the houses in the different countries.
