Who hasn't heard of Val Thorens ? This elegant resort of the Savoy region is a key destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Located on the Tarentaise, an incised valley bordered by the Beaufortain and Mont-Blanc mountain belts, it is also north of the Vanoise and Lauzière mountain ranges. Regarded as one of the best ski station in the world, it is also the highest in Europe. With an altitude alternating between 1815 and 3230 meters and a peak that reaches 2300 meters, the scale of its natural landscapes is truly out of this world. The station, which belongs to the town of Belleville, is a part of the Trois Vallées ski area. As such, several races of the 1992 Albertville Winter Olympics were held in Val Thorens.
Canyoning, paragliding, ice hockey, rafting, zip-line rides, squash and climbing: in both summer and winter alike, sports are always at the centre of the city's activities. To unwind after all this excitement, you can head over to the Aquaclub to spend some quality time with friends and family. Spa, jacuzzis, torrent showers, balneo baths… All the ingredients are there for a calm and relaxing break. It is also the perfect place to get back in shape as aqua-gym, fitness or even tai chi classes are available all year round at the sport centre. A state of mind, that's what Val Thorens is first and foremost. Friendliness and well-being are at the heart of its way of life. And if you need to see it with your own eyes, head over to the bottom of the slopes to enjoy countless activities as the sun sets: concerts, bowling, mulled wine tasting… The more adventurous can also try the génépi, traditional liquor distilled from a plant only found on this exceptional mountain.
