Nestled in the heart of the Maurienne region, Valmeinier is a Savoyard resort that combines nature with its peacefulness, which attracts winter sports enthusiasts looking for a peaceful holiday in the high mountains. The resort is divided into two areas : Valmeinier 1500, the village full of traditional charm, and Valmeinier 1800, the tourist resort.

Valmeinier belongs to the large ski area of Galibier-Thabor. It is therefore connected to the neighboring station, Valloire, and forms with it a real playground for the lovers of the slide : 150 kilometers of tracks located at more than 2000 meters of altitude. The resort enjoys an exceptional snow cover throughout the season which makes the descents very pleasant. You can also try the night skiing in Valmeinier to ski the slopes in peace. Between 17h and 18h30, part of the ski area is illuminated to allow good skiers to discover a new way to practice their favorite sport.

Skiing is not the only way to enjoy the snowy landscapes of Valmeinier. The resort has a toboggan run because the joys of skiing are not only for skiers ! Snowboard enthusiasts and other disciplines can also be found in the snowpark of the Lac de la Vieille for maximum sensations. Want to get closer to the immobile and sparkling nature ? The experts of the mountain of Bouzandoc await you for excursions in the deepest of the region. These guides unveil all the secrets of the virgin spaces around Valmeinier, in a friendly atmosphere. In Valmeinier, many events punctuate the life of the village and the resort. Summer and winter, holidaymakers have many opportunities to have fun with the residents. In February, everyone in his costumes is Carnival time ! From February to March, the residences of Valmeinier 1800 defy every Wednesday : the vacationers come to represent their residences in a frantic race on a special slalom. Your skis !

The unavoidable event in 2017 is without a doubt the French cup of slopestyle, which will take place in Valmeinier on March 25th. This discipline recognized by the International Ski Federation consists of realizing sensational acrobatic figures laced with skis or a snowboard. In 2014, the slopestyle became an official Olympic discipline. In 2017, the biggest French slopestyle athletes will hurry on the slopes of Valmeinier to show what they are capable of.

During the summer, concerts and festivals follow each other in the resort. The curious will want to attend the annual Magic Festival, which seizes the city for two days at the end of July. Workshops and magic tricks in the street but also incredible shows in the evening, made by gifted artists and recognized throughout France. Abracadabra!

Nice walks around the residence but you have to be at least athletic because there are often 2 to 3 hours of walking with 200m difference in altitude. Don't be afraid of heights on most of the walks. Go and see the marmots behind the chairlifts!

We attended a conference presenting the history of Valmeinier. The high mountain guide (Francis) who gave us the presentation was absolutely fascinating, both historically and in terms of the fauna and its adaptation to today's environment.
